porter robinson is bawsssss! :D Me from 4 years ago honestly would be at the hipster tent no joke.

Not enough Culprit/Crosstown Rebels to sway me away from that tech stage. Although I have a thing for hipster girls, I love me some American Apparel tights and thick rim glasses.

absolutely, but i dont think from what I hear they really do have rave cultur at heart (or know how to deal with it)

"rave culture" + big business is shady at best. Smart festival that turns a profit = why not?

The infrastructure is already there, the medium in terms of entertainment is irrelevant. If it makes people happy and there is money to be made......the brand wins.

Wow I'll first start by saying this is the best TA thread in a long time! Finally some intelligent conversation lol.

I think like Malek! If you can pull this off alone, do it alone! Or make sure you choose your partners well.

Someone talked about Cream earlier... And I remember one year they had Cream at Stade Uniprix at Jarry Parc. Not sure about the numbers, but one could do it outdoors, during the day on the different courts, set up tents if need be. And I remember there was a big indoor space that they split up into 2 rooms. And the other advantage is that you also have a huge ass park that could also serve for something (camping ground for a 2-day festival?, eg). If not I think Palais would be the place with their many rooms and even rooftop areas. The Big O scares me a little.

Montreal would all-over themselves for a line-up like that but to get 50k people I do think it would have to be a day event. I think a night event would get you 20k people, the first year at least. So many times I hear older (late 20s-35) boys and girls say they would go but that an all-nighter is too hard for them. These are music fans with money who wouldn't hesitate one second if it was a day event to spend the money.

I would do it the "long weekend" of St-Jean Baptiste. It's summer, people are off and sometimes more flexible with taking their holidays. It's at least 2 months away from BEB, Labour Day weekend, and BnB. It's not in the middle of finals lile BEB nor midterms like BnB. It's summer people travel, americans can take a week off until July 4 to come party in Montreal...

En tout cas, if you make it happen, wow, major props to you and
i have no doubt it'll be a success! Scare the old productions a little. Just like you did when you started the trance room at BnB last year (anyone remember the desperate attempt of BEB with their Bal en Noir?)....

Go Montreal needs this!

50k is a lot of people. You would need a Madonna or Gaga to even come close...and even then....
Spin Laden
Agreed.

Even half of that may not be easy. From what I read Electric Zoo had 26,000 for the entire weekend its first year and I think our festivals/events have never exceeded far beyond 20K. Lady Gaga or Madonna would be a huge coup, gay dollar would go through the roof :p

I think a lot of this comes back to pricing. Pricing, lineup, venue, timing, sponsorship and marketing, and so on. Hard to compare some other successful $10 festivals and events to this one when it's gonna cost a lot to pay those djs. Then again if you get 12,000 at Beach Club for Tiesto, $70 ticket and outdoors, then anything is possible :p

"Dance music has reached a unique point in the United States. Festivals across the country reported record-breaking attendance figures in 2010: Electric Zoo in New York City had 50,000; Movement in Detroit had 95,000; Electric Daisy Carnival had 185,000. The HARD summer tour which hit 12 cities across the country was sold out even as Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) was reporting a summer tour slump for the music industry with mainstream acts like Christina Aguilera cutting shows due to soft sales."
