What's worse is when they think they would make a great producer because they have "excellent" taste.

I think everyone is the thread is just used to bad djs.i have not ever heard a good dj so I understand where you guys are coming from.

Djs could do o much but usually settle on something a monkey could do. I would make the same argument with most producers. Smarter monkey? Sure but they both like throwing feces.

Ido think djing is for 30 and younger.

you've never seen a good dj? where do you live antarctica? :conf:

Never heard a great mix either.

Djs and producers for the most part just don't have the ability to make something cohesive, intelligent ad tasteful and also entertaining.

And ya, never had 1 dj in my entire life whether dancing or lstening at home and not had a list f things that would make it better.

does this guy know how to party or what!
Looney4Clooney
Like everything I do, I do well. Me partying would make what ever you think is partying look like a game of rummy with a group of narcoleptic seniors.

what music do you like? if you've never heard a good dj then what do you compare it to? :conf:

I have a very broad range of music I enjoy. The issue is djing and the lack of understanding in developing a work of consoderable lenghth that is not only enjoyable at a surface level but organized ie attention to form, use of motives , basically giving you soomething nobody else could of given you.

Not. Saying they are bad, I've jut never once been impressed and left the night saying, damn the music was just great.

Djing involves quite a bit of skill most of it being somewhat psychological in nature. Unlike a chess player thinking 6 moves ahead and reacting to the opponent, most djs are not even thinking 2 tracks ahead. Most have no idea what they are doing. Ask them the purpose of a track at any given moment, almost all I'll say ummm I like this track.

And therein lies the weakness of mot djs. They don't understand the effect the music is having on an audience. They are just lucky that people take slot of drugs and will dance to anything including silence.

Haha very true.

Also the problem is with listeners right?...i mean 99% of them like meaningless cheesy tunes,so the DJ might loose his job if he tries to experiment. So the DJ just tries to pile up track after track dipped in cheese.

This is where some rock(and a few metal) bands have an upper hand. But hey this is dance music..its for dancing...having fun...not for making us think :toothless

It isnt about the audience thinking, it is about manipulating music to achieve an emotional response. It really isn't that left field. You think a pop track where the bridge leads toe final chorus a semi tone up is just random. It triggers an emotional response, it also coincides with the top rangeofthe singer. There is thought involved and the result is just a better experience for the crowds.

i've been to gigs and the dj has cleared the dancefloor because he played music the pilled up clubbers didn't like so to think clubbers would dance to anything when their pilled up is wrong. now don't get me wrong if your at a david guetta gig or tiesto then your theory works. go to a dave clarke gig and tell me that he's . never seen a dj put so much thought and effort in a set in my life. so much so that he never looks at the crowd hes constantly mixing, arranging live remixing putting on quite a show.
