So, I just quit smoking last Sunday for what seems like a 100s time. Somehow I'm remaining optimistic that this is THE last time. Going through Nicorette lozenges like they are Tic Tacs and still craving a smoke, even though that toward quitting, I cut down to 1/3 pack a day.
Those that were able to quit successfully, congrats and - how did ya do it? Tips/suggestions?
Don't smoke.
Exercise
Eat Healthy

The trick to giving up is to believe that it's not difficult.
I personally believe that all the hype surrounding quitting makes people think they'll fail before they even attempt it, and therefore nearly everyone goes in with the wrong mindset.
When I gave up, I simply stopped and knew I wasn't going to smoke again, but most importantly I knew it wasn't going to be difficult.

I don't understand why anyone starts in the first place.

One thing about smoking is that it instantly makes people look like trashy underclass scum.

I guess I can sort of understand if you grew up in a place where everyone around you smoked and it was seen as weird not to do it. But it seems like there are fewer and fewer places like that nowadays, so to me it is weird when people take up the habit.

For me it was a combination of factors. My dad used to smoke when i was little, as well as some other important peer figures. I started associating the smell of smoke with familiarity, it made me feel warm and safe.
As a teenager smokers seemed like interesting people to me, the nonchalance and openness felt appealing. Once you start smoking out of curiosity the nicotine does the rest. As it has an interesting druggy effect on the user which is extremely potent the first few times. My friends started picking it up as well so more opportunities to do it started to arise.
I didn't consciously choose to do it regularly, but after a while i started to appreciate it so much i no longer cared about hiding it as it was now my preference and something i could stand behind. Regardless of what the public opinion was.

I smoke because I thought it would get me behind the DJ booth at Get Lost, Miami. Now I'm just addicted. :(
Basically, Crosstown Rebels gave me cancer.

quit smoking jan 2 not by resolution, came down with bronchitis and was sick for 5 days locked to my bed, didn't smoke in those 5 days and decided to use that as my start. it's hard, it still is even now almost 2 months later. the doc prescribed me zyband/welbutrin so in the beginning i was taking that every day, then twice a day. i stopped taking that like 2 weeks ago it kinda bothered me that i had to take pills every day.
i do find myself eating more and smoking a lot more pot, but that was always the case.
i also discovered the 'non-smoking-party' that goes on at the dinner table when everyone gets up to go smoke. everyone that doesn't smoke does a little cheer as if they having a non-smoking-party which i thought was kinda dumb but funny since i never knew about it.
its tough when i drink too or im at outdoor parties, but usually at those parties im just smoking a lot of pot.
anyways, good luck keep it up and fight the urge.

Almost all of my friends began to smoke when they were 15 - 16 years old. Today i still don't understand why.
Maybe the reason is that, at the time they thought is was cool.
But i don't understand why anyone would think its cool in the first place either.
