(M)oskito (pg. 2)

I logged on here with intentions of starting a thread with the exact same title lol. Very much looking forward to checking out both places. (M)oskito sounds incredible from what I've read in the M-Nus party's event thread but am skeptical of Uniun. From what I've heard, it could either be another ritzy club that most of us won't be interested in, or Ink is finally trying their hand at something underground again. C+C playing there doesn't mean much to me as we get quality djs playing upscale, pretentious places too (C+C @ TIL, Lawler @ Maison, Satoshii @ Cube). My fingers are crossed that "Factory Fridays" means a proper underground spot. It'd definitely be a smart move by Ink seeing how they have enough clubs for the clubbers that are go out to be seen and spend money on bottles. Between that and (M)oskito, Toronto will be a big step forward.

Lol! I'm still going to check it out, but that's such a lame name. Getting my friends to come out, it's so hard to convince them when I mention we should go check out "Moskito"! Imo it's such an unappealing name for a club. Looking forward to the sound in there though.

The Guvernment and Sound Academy sounded stupid when they started as well. Give it time to sink in. The best names are the unlikely, quirky ones.

If that's the case and they're still able to sustain themselves, I applaud that. I'm loving the idea of a back alley entrance ala footwork!

Uniun? Whatever happened with Cube? Didn't that just open like a half year ago? Has Cube already the bed that they have to open up another venue to move the party too (I really ask this in all honesty as I never went there nor had any desire too)?

I doubt I will make an effort to go there like Cube unless they have some good bookings and I hear positive things about it. It is run by INK after all. Kings of the souless venues, lacking in innovation and creativity, and total copycat styles :p

Moskito on the other hand sounds really interesting from what I have heard, their first 2 events look proper good whereas Uniun is more of the same old from INK. Keeping it as safe and simple as possible which seems to be their M.O. from the last few years or so ...

Who knows, I might be totally off the mark with this one. Or I might be dead on as I was a few months ago before Cube opened up :p

i heard the bookings that were happening at cube on fridays will start happening at uniun. sounds like it will be much less upscale than cube (that being said i never actually went inside cube or even ultra)

here's hoping that both venues make us proud to live here!

this'll be awesome if the venue is good enough to handle that sound system.

We'll see how far this goes. Moskito is more less going to be called "M".

Dynacord has been done off. From Boa to M, it will be a great revival of sound.

Any idea what size/capacity of venue(s) we're talking about here? From checking the addresses on Google Streetview, they obviously won't be huge spaces, but might we be talking Footwork size, or larger?

We could definitely use more midsize places (as in 500-1000 capacity or so)...

Interesting!! I spoke with a Latin gentleman at a party last weekend who was talking about this new club opening up on College street. He was really excited about it. I was very curious to find out what it was but he was really hush hush about it except for the fact that it has Boa's old sound system. Was "Moskito" always known as the venue for this M_NUS party or has it been TBA until recently??

This is the old Plaza Flamingo's which was a salsa dance bar. Very decent space by the looks of it. 750ish capacity. Nice open venue :D

I might just have to check this out tomorrow. By the way, where has Boa's sound system been hiding all these years? Was it tucked away in a storage unit and rented out once in a while or?

As for Uniun. Nothing really much to say, it seems like it's gone TiL --> Cube --> Uniun. SoHo Fridays --> Factory Fridays. I'll pass on seeing C&C there as there are plenty of other venues I'd rather see them play in.

Either way, this is great news for the scene in Toronto.
