A little underwhelmed with the bookings so far. It's not that theirs anything wrong with them, it just kinda feels like the same old stuff.
So far we've seen a Minus night, Art Department/Lee Foss, Mark Farina, Sneaks BDay Beats, and Danny Howells. All of these are the kind of bookings that Toronto already gets on a regular basis. Every year we get these guys passing through, but now instead of them being at FW/Sunnyside/etc, they might be at Moskito. Which is all good, it's nice to have a change of scenery, but I just find it a little underwhelming. It would be awesome if we had a new venue that didn't play by these standard toronto booking rules, and made it a point to ensure their programme focused on bringing new talent that Toronto isn't already extremely familiar with. It would be awesome to have a place that's really different then what we already have, not the same thing just now at another location. Maybe it's too early to critique this and I'm jumping the gun, time will tell. |
There's another booking that's hush hush atm... but it's someone Toronto has never had the privilege of having before. |

We've successfully cloned a 1998 version of him. But he will be playing under a new alias 'no body gives a ' |

I appreciate what the people involved are trying to do, because I have been to this venue and it is incredible (plus I know and trust some of the people involved). However,

I couldn't have said it better myself. I'm not trying to hate on what Moskito or other promoters and venues in this city are trying to do, but what was said in the post above is precisely why for the past year or two I have have kept away from the venues and parties that I have been used to going to over the past several years. It's just the same DJs over and over (and over) again. The rare time I show up at one of these parties, people ask me if I still go out anymore. I do still go out, quite a lot actually. It's just that there are so many other things going on in dance music right now that I don't need to see the same DJ again for the 15th or 20th time (literally).
The reality is, there are quite a few new promotion groups in Toronto that are gaining a real foothold in the dance music market in this city, and especially with the younger generation. They do this by offering fresh, new bookings, and usually with acts that have never been to this city before, and play music that a lot of traditional promoters would consider "risky" to book. This is a completely different approach than the one we are used to, which is to book DJs which had a few big memorable parties back in the day, and then book them regularly for the next 10 years ala Dubfire, Lawler, Chus & Ceballos, etc. What's more, this new approach is an approach that's working.
I want to reiterate that I'm not trying to hate on what promoters in this scene are trying to do, because I know they're doing it to make this scene fun, show this city a good time, and give their clientele what they want. I respect that. I am just speaking my mind to challenge promoters to look beyond the tried and true to breath life into this scene. It's no secret that the crowd in this scene is getting a lot older, and as it stands right now, there isn't nearly enough of the younger generation to fill the gaps. |

We got your backs :)
Everyone at boundbysound is very excited for the venue! |

| Another point that I forgot to mention is that we as patrons of these venues also need to be more open to trying new sounds and artists. We cannot expect promoters and venues to bring in different DJs if the club is going to be half full. |

I'm guessing you're referring to likes of Mansion and Happy Endings? (or even Embrace?) |
