would it be worth upgrading from KRK'6 to HS80's?

just curious as to whether there would be any benefit. I am still learning but i would like a good low range and high range and everywhere range response in monitors.

Thanks for any feedback. hope i explained myself well enough :)

I upgraded from the KRKs to Event Opals. Now that was a worthy upgrade. Made me wonder why I ever bothered getting the KRKs.

So my advice: save up a bunch more money so you can get something really good.

It may take a while but you'll end up actually having what you were really looking for. Something that I think won't happen if you switch to the HS80s.

What is a KRK6?

Specify the model :)

He means the Rokit KRK6's.

I have the 8's and they sound really nice for the price, got lots of low end. I might upgrade one day when i have the dough to really spend on something worth while like the event opals.

Save for focals. thanks

I find the Adam A7x or KRK Vxt6 give a nice balanced response. They are both a bit weak in the low-mid range and the sub range, but find them good to work with.

I was never a fan of the Focals. Felt too in your face IMO.

Genelecs are always beautiful but you will probably be paying around 6-700 more for a pair in the same "range", and have overall just very good balance and response.

I don't see why people hate rokits so much. They are cheap, and they colour the sound tremendously, I get it. Why do people insist on hating them so much.

The KRK VXT8s are incredible reference monitors with tons of low-end and nice detailed highs. Best purchase I've made.

I'm running in an untreated room as well but I'm aware of this and it's not my immediate concern. I have noticed now that after training my ear I guess I can see I need more clarity from my monitors particular with frequency response from low end to top end being the ideal.

The trouble I run with a post like this many different opinions but all welcomed. I hope more people suggest one type of monitor more so than another and that will be where I go next. I know Rokik make a high end spec monitors and have heard they run well also. Genelecs also get good reviews as well.

Any more suggestions most appreciated

KRK's.

I know you've had two people say they like them in this thread, but good luck finding any more, and I swear those two will see the light when they next buy monitors ;)

With HS80's the thing you will notice immediately is far greater detail and much better stereo image. Like night and day.

Bass extension is also another, but this is the caviat; in a small room HS80's will give you hell. untreated is not the end of the world, but I find the HS80's unusable in a small space - they just boom.

My advice has been the same for about 18 months now:

Small untreated room? JBL LSR2325p. best sounding monitor at that price period and they sound decent in bad environments.

Larger room? HS80's and do yourself a favor by getting just a little room treatment.

Other than those two, save your money to get the real deal (focal, barefoots, PMC, B&W).

I don;t like the middleground in the market place - the two budget ones I listed are fantastic for the money and until you get to the focals you're making negligible steps up in quality for a lot of money...until you hit focal money and then you've just taken a big step.

I can say with all honestly, I there are 10 other monitor models I would buy at each price point rather than buying KRK's.

RANN have you ever heard Sonodyne monitors?

They go for about 450 a pop, I think they're a steal.

Thanks Rann, I appreciate your input your bit of veteran around here :tongue3

I am in the process of building a home so I will have a decent room then devoted to my music so will hold off now after that advice. As at present my room is very very small in fact, it was an old walk in robe for clothes so you can only imagine. At the momemt I run the krk's on very low volume most of the time and continually reference with my headphones.

the JBL's would be a good option if i was to continue with this setup sized room. so may opt then for HS's when i move or save for Focals and so on.

Thanks again for responses. I know this is probably the 1mill'nth post of monitors

:eyes:

Cheers,

good to see all you old timers are still around the place!

I love my KRK RP6's. There is no need to upgrade my friend.

Deadmau5 used the KRK RP8's when he made Random Album Title. Do you really think you're going to get a better monitor unless you spend $1,000.00+?
