Exactly. I have nothing against gays, because I know many gay people and they're cool. But I hate when they get all mad when we say "you're gay" and such and use the word wrong. Do we get mad when gays say "you're so straight?" Not really, so why should they get extra respect? :/ |
I know gay people who really don't care about that stuff. They know people are going to do it anyway and I think most people mean idiot when they call someone a fag and are calling someone stupid when they see they're gay. They shouldn't use these words but some people are ignorant and always will be. |

it's not about respect, its about the implications of what you're saying. when you say "you're gay" or "this stop sign is gay" or whatever, you're implying something negative about it just through the societal connotations of the word. your intentions are obvious. you most definitely mean it in a derogatory way. when someone says you're so straight you dont get offended because there are no negative connontations with the word. people like the ones saying despicable things about homosexuals in this thread are the ones that give "you're gay" its negative connotation. if someone says to me "you're so gay", i personally wouldn't take offense to it, because i wouldn't see it as a bad thing. to them it's an insult, and i recognize that, as does the majority of society.
and on top of all that, when was the last time anyone told you "you're so straight" ? in my experience, gay people understand their sexuality better and don't exhibit heterophobia in the blatant way that ignorani parade their homophobia.

I have no doubt people are born into their sexual oreintation. What I was getting at is that kids could be influenced by the bombardment of homosexuality that they would recieve daily from same sex parents. |
what about the 99% of kids that are bombarded with heterosexuality every waking minute of their lives. not only from parents but from tv, movies, music, books, everything. you've got to consider that there must be a lot of people "born gay" but have heterosexuality beaten into them irreparably. why do you think so many gay people have an immensely tough time coming out ? because every single day, 99.9% of the institutions in our lives encourage heterosexuality.

True. But heterosexuality is the normal. It is one of the very very few things that can be described as 'normal'. Men and women were designed to reproduce. men & men and women & women were not designed to reproduce. So being bombarded with normality ever day cannot be wrong, being bombarded with abnormality (such as homosexuality) can be viewed as wrong.
This is why I believe that some homosexuals arent really gay, they are just trying to be different because they see this normality everywhere. Think of it as a more extreme version of those people who dress excentrically. |

gay people go through so much prejudice and discrimination in their lives, no one would ever pick their sexual orientation just to be different. you're born being gay. just like when you were little, you didn't decide to be straight. i hate how there is so much ignorance around this subject... |

This is from a study I read once and from my own observations of people. I am quite versed in anthropology so believe me there is no ignorance here. And I will add (with no intention to insult) that what you have shown in your reply is a typical female defence of male homosexuals. This happens because (quite obviously) male homosexuals and females share interests and bond together. |

| The only thing wrong with gays is the constant bashing of them by the Catholic church. Otherwise, I don't see any reason why gays shouldn't marry, adopt, etc. |

well, i think your version of normal is that defined by media and popular culture, which consistently reinforces heterosexuality. i don't think that homosexuality is any less 'normal' in a natural sense. we've already cited lots of studies (see CortexBomb) about homosexuality in the animal kingdom, and frankly i could care less for your arrogant anthropology.
and i would have to agree that not many people would pick being homosexual just to be different. that's a ridiculous assertion.
we have different views, but at least civil dialogue is happening, so lets leave it at that. ive spent far too much time on ta recently...

i meant gay as in homosexual. and lol, i don't stick up for gay guys just b/c we share interests. it just floors me to see how people still get so worked up based on someone else's sexual preference. not directed toward you necessarily, but wtf cares? no one is saying you have to partake in the lifestyle, so just mind your own business. |
