I guess I'm a ing dope-too. But maybe the school system should change before that. Where I live, teachers get hired based off connections. So the good teachers might be overlooked just so the kid of someone well-connected or a friend will get the job. Not right, but it is the way the system works. The only fun thing I ever got to do was to not go to it after high school. My attitude has changed slightly.
But I will put in enough effort. Tto see where I can take myself with my mind. |

I hated school too but I'm actually really smart (trust me), the school just didn't know how to teach to me.

Haha see, that's what makes you a fool, Nou...I didn't particularly like school either - but I liked learning and being smart. Because of that I was always put into enrichment classes, where all the smart kids got to spend an hour or two a day doing brain puzzles or advanced math stuff, science experiments, etc. Basically not having to do the same old boring everyone else was doing.
Hence, school was actually pretty awesome. Maybe if you didn't act like a dope you wouldn't have been treated like one. :o |
Actually I made a conscious decision to not go into those classes. Maybe that was a mistake, I am not sure, but I know a lot of really smart people that went into those classes and they came out incredibly socially inept (and I don't mean like me, where I say/do stupid , 90% of the time because I know it will make people go wtf/laugh, but I mean like they have NO clue how to interact with anyone less intelligent than them). I also had a lot of friends that went into those classes and they have ended up doing nothing with their lives.
Also, at least here, beyond elementary school those classes resulted in literally just more homework and nothing of any actual substance. |

That is actually an incredibly common and well backed up argument. The US school system is a joke. They do not know how to teach to smart children and they do not know how to teach to the really dumb kids or the kids that need help. They try and process everything at this middle of the road level and it really cuts out a huge number of kids who can't keep up or who get bored because they read the text book in the first week, and the teacher just spends the rest of their time slowly going over the text.
College is so much better and if they started teaching like that at the high school level, with more focus on what kids want to study (as in magnet schools or specialized course choices) you'd have a lot higher retention rate. That is how it works in most of Europe and Asia and I think it is a primary reason why they are kicking our ass in almost every category.
So you can troll all you want, but trying to call people stupid for not falling in line in the US school system is laughable at best and moronic at worst.
*edit*
Source for this knowledge: My grandfather was a professor of early childhood educational development at the University of Washington (his doctorate in the field was from Harvard) for almost 40 years. His best friend was John Jarolimek, who if you go back and look at your middle school and high school history books you will find as one of the authors, I guarantee it.
Furthermore, my father has practiced educational law for 30 years dealing with teachers, unions, school boards, and administration. It is pretty much all he can talk about, so I have heard, an arguably biased, appraisal of the education system, at least in my state.
Lastly a number of people I have known for many years are now in the educational field, specifically in K-6 education. |

I managed to do College Preparatory classes when I was in High School. It was like a level below the AP (Advanced Placement) courses. I got to be really good at math by Junior and Senior year. Although I might have bitten a little more than I could chew by taking Precalculus. Everything was good until we started learning sine and cosine graphs and logarithms in the last few months. Think it might have been the Senioritis but I barely passed it with a C. And then the sad part was when one of the Counselors came into my English class mid-way through the year to tell us that College Prep courses alone will not be enough to get into good 4 year universities anymore. Talk about crushing dreams right there. Didn't really matter to me though, I was expecting to go to community college as soon as I got done with High School. Probably was for the best, considering how high tuition rates have soared in this country in the past decade. It's ridiculous these days, and they're going to be causing some serious brain drain by denying so many others the chance to get a good education and use it.
EDIT: I will agree with Nou though. The public school systems in this country is a bit of a joke. They do very little in preparing kids for the real world. And most of the teachers couldn't care less if you passed or not. |

I guess you wouldn't understand that being around smart people and being raised by them tends to actually make you smart as well seeing that you are in Atlanta, and there are no smart people there, so I understand how this concept is entirely foreign to you. I am sorry for your loss. |

| How about you go back to bitching about having to help pay for a meal with your family when their money is the only reason you exist in any capacity. |
