I find that strange. I also don't remember personally having a choice - my dad wouldn't have allowed me to say no.
Also I don't recall any of the kids who did enrichment to be socially inept at all. If anything most of us had better social skills due to not being treated like morons by adults. |

Parents say I'm super smart, but say I am my own worse enemy. I tend on agreeing with them. They're both chemical engineers with masters from top-tier schools and each of them combined together have over 13 patents. So if it is genes we are talking about. I should be "really really smart." But I don't agree with genes having any correlation on being "smart". Its more of the effort you are willing to put in. And the encouragement you get from your educators and parents. Parents don't really care, they just say do your best. Educators-especially the ones before college-were not interested in teaching at all. |

No, homework counts for 50% of your grade. THAT. If a kid doesn't do his homework and doesn't know his , thats his problem, don't penalize the kids who don't want to do busy work for they know.
I got accused of cheating numerous times for sleeping in class and then acing a test, or slacking off and doing none of the preparatory work like "turn in an outline" for a report and then handing in something really good. |
As you already sort of wrote, school systems aren't designed around the exceptions. Most people don't study a lot on their own time or already know the material. For-credit homework is really put there to push those kids to do better, not for the people who already learned the stuff themselves or can bluff their way through most public school tests on raw intelligence. |
