back from seeing len faki @ ryze. he played 30-40 minutes. he was killing it. the volume got shut down, fire department issue. no one was really giving clear cut answers to what the real issue was. I'm sure i heard a few answers but i forgot by now. however, the ryze staff stated they would offer free entry with these wristbands to a future show, the best possible outcome. i can't fault ryze, or len faki. there was toronto police and fire dpt ppl in the building. before that however the bouncers and staff were honest and courteous. i didn't agree with one line for all but they said it wasn't their call and the line was held but because of the staircase (which was true). with their staff and crew being nice and all i would love to go back but with being shut down for no apparant concern leaves me not so excited to return in the future. was interested in seeing rebekah n phase but i will determine that at a later date if i go back with my so called free 'wristband'. if that doesn't work than good riddance

That sucks, especially when the party was going well. I hope they do good with the free wristband thing. Generally I find the staff and bouncers there to be easy going so they should honour the wristband.

sucks you can't remember anything about MJC! I wonder if she improved from last time she was here at Electric Island. I saw pics of the event and it looked rammed. Coda and Tdot in general is killing it with the bookings they have lined up for the next two months. I hope to make it out for Teenage Mutants at Red on April 10th I believe and Nora En Pure before that.

lol

went down to coda on Saturday, no line up so no issue lol great vibe in the club... everybody was up for it, even myself as I was walking all day... Patrick topping played Forget and Boxed Off all great... some mixing was questionable... Francesca Lombardo came on and continued with an up tempo set.... Patrick and Francesca both were super awesome nice ppl, they both really enjoyed themselves...
only complaint they didn't play long, Francesca finished at 4 and not sure what time Patrick started...
the closing dj was decent he banged out some real nice tunes...

Re: Ryze Shutdown

I heard the reason behind the shutdown was fire alarm was pulled. When the Fire Department showed up they saw that it was overcapacity so they shut it down and fined the venue.

I hate to say it but I'm glad something like this finally happened. Clubs ramming an uncomfortable amount of people into a club one of my biggest pet peeves. It drives me insane when I can barely dance and it takes a half hour to get from one end of the room to the other. I feel really bad for anyone that paid to see Len Faki and the rest of the lineup but I hope this sends a message to management (I'm sure it did) and other clubs to stop pulling this kinda bull.

Such a coincidence that Wunderground released a joke article on this problem just yesterday lol. What are the odds of that.

That's what the word was there. But inside the venue it wasnt that crowded lol

Crowed doesn't mean shoulder to shoulder to the Fire Department, it's whether not whomever is in there, can get out in a safe and reasonable amount of time based on the exits or paths to the exits available.

You could have a giant warehouse theoretically with one door, you may be able to fit 1000 people, but the fire dept would say 100 because there is only one door out.

i feels, but i still think ryze had ample exits. not my call though. other people were saying noise complaints which is why I'm sort of hesitant to redeem a free entrance, not to mention if every one goes back for alan fitzpatrick, and there is a lot of capacity taken up by ticket holders, what happens to those trying to get in from last weeks party. a big problem that i could potentially see is the fact the stair case was full of people trying to get in and being held up. the will call person wasn't too professional. trying to charge me after i told her 10x i payed she wouldn't even look for my name just said i don't see it, until some guy stepped in and found it in a second. but yea inside there was a lot of people but plenty of dance space at the front anyway. that 20-60min from faki i heard was more memorable than almost any other set this year. next up ben klock, possibly carl craig

I doubt that Ryze will give patrons from Saturday's event a free entrance to another international headliner event. It would be given to those Friday/Saturday nights where it's just the locals with no advance ticket sales.

Could you imagine with Alan Fitzpatrick already almost sold out if even HALF the people with wristbands from the Len Faki event showed up trying to get in? That would be the utmost of cluster s and I highly doubt Ryze would knowingly put themselves in that same position one week later.

Ryze is notorious for overcrowding the dancefloor so this comes with no surprise to me. My fiancée and I are going on Saturday for Alan Fitzpatrick and I really hope they get their sorted out!

I heard that on top of the overcrowding issue, that the fire department was concerned with the structural integrity of the dancefloor - ie. the floor supports because of it vibrating and shaking excessively. I hope that's not the case otherwise they'd need to get a structural engineer in to inspect/assess and give it the rubber stamp of approval or shut down for a while until it's fixed up...

planetaryplayer
Tbh I thought that was a feature of ryze, I've been to a few places where the floor shakes. At this point I don't think I'll be redeeming my free entrance

Bingo, you wouldn't believe how much a staircase, number of steps, location of stair case to the exits can impact the fire code capacity. I've dealt with these things before and I was able to increase capacity by 5 persons by turning a pool table 90 degrees. I'm sure there is a method the madness, but it's about getting out in a fire.
