| Water taxi = $10 there and $10 back. Or you can taxi it there and take the ferry back for free. |

I officially don't care much for parties any more. I've had all year to really dodge parties, party favors, djs and outings. I don't feel bad and if I do go out now, it's probably just cause I needed a drink out with some tunes I never expect to wow me. LOL
On the other hand, I cleaned my condo, did some studying for an exam and 2 loads of laundry. Also watched Mad Max with my family. Pretty fun weekend not to mention today... I have my BRAINCELLS! |

Showed up at 4am and had some trouble getting in. I had a comp and the guy at cover charge kept saying I wasn't on the list and I was telling him I was on a separate list and he was acting all dumb. After 2 or 3 conversations with him, a girl took over and found it almost immediately. Not too long after my friends arrived and were told by the guy working the door downstairs that they were no longer accepting tickets and that would have to pay the full $60 cover and get a refund on the tickets some time after. They went upstairs anyways and the guy in the cover charge booth (same guy maybe?) said they would have to use another entrance that turned out to be closed. I think a staff meeting may be necessary after the weekend.
Danny played really strong for the first few hours - lots of techno with some tribal sprinkled throughout. Then he got really boring for a while with minimal and some other stuff I dont' even care to remember. Good thing about re-entry and the gergeous weather is if you're not digging part of his marathon set you can dip out for however long you want and return. There were so many times I was close to leaving for good but that shread of hope that it will get better made me stay. We even spent an hour on the Sneaky Dee's patio for lunch. When we came back he was playing more tribal and techno and disco house. His afternoon beats was the best of his set for sure. I convinced a few of my friends who left at 8 or 9am to come back 5 hours later lol. I'd say from Noon or 1PM on there was 50 people or less at the venue. I kept thinking it was going to end any minute but he kept going and going. There was only 20 or so at 3PM and he still didn't stop lol. He came on the mic at 3:30 and said something like "10,000 people, 1,000 people, 10 people.. I don't care... I'm gonna mix into this techno track and then slow it down".

It was down to 15 of us after 4PM. At 4:45 he came out to dance during his last track.
One would assume the party is definitely over when the music has stopped, house lights on the and the dj shooting the with the remaining 15 people.
So I left.
I learned 6 hours later that after someone requesting his remix The Beatles' Elanor Rigby, he decided to play one more track... and another 2.5 hours of music after lol. His 16 hour set finally concluded at 7:30PM. This was all after Daniel Dub's SIX hour opening set.
Ladies and gentleman, Toronto has entered a new era.
While I'm not surprised by his set length based on his history of regular 12-18 hour sets at Stereo, I'm REALLY surprised by him AND the club for going that long when there were SO few people there.
What cost $60 at the start of the night was down to $30 at 8AM and $20 later on but I'm not sure exactly when. I wouldn't be surprised if it was free for anyone who showed up in the afternoon. The bar reopened at promptly at 11AM too.

Yeah I feel like I'm almost over it all too. I'm just getting old and it's becoming more and more exhausting to go out - not just physically, but it's actually work to try to enjoy just an alright DJ set. I hate having to force it, having a good time is not something you should have to think too hard about. Just alright is not good enough and there is a lot of it these days.
I'm getting married this year anyway, I realistically probably only have another year or two to continue with party shenanigans.
I dunno though, hard to put an expiration date on such things. I love music and I can't just NOT want to dance. So ehhh. |

I've just stopped with grand expectations, and planning too much. I don't pysch myself up that much with listening to tons of sets beforehand etc. I get excited to spend time with my friends with music. Take care of the essentials ie. ticket, transportation, accommodation, time off, and the rest of it with the flow, and make sure I have good company. Obvs I'll gravitate towards DJs/parties etc that are more my style or taste. But I've also become more open to just going to other parties as well but with an open mind and TRY to not be judgmental or cynical.
I'll never stop raving, it will just become more infrequent...

I actually went through these same feelings like 8 or 9 years ago - but it had more to do with being burned out and knowing too many self-serving industry people. I was very put off by the whole scene (everything but the music, of course). I was in school anyway and thought I was ready to throw in the towel - but then I actually found myself going out even more, lol.
Anyway, distanced myself from all the users, ass-kissers, and cool guy bull and whatnot, and have enjoyed myself much more ever since. :) |
