is they never allow the headliner to play "one more track"... that really does bother me.... |
Karm SOOO wanted to play one more. I felt so bad when they were playing with the mixer and nothing would happen. And they were playing all weekend, Vancouver, Burning Man, Montreal, and still wanted to play one more song, he had this huge grin with his finger up 'uno momento!' and no one would let them. :(
Man, I can only imagine what that last track could have been! |

| beltram !!! tattoo is kinda cool. the sound was kinda loud on the highs and mids. i couldn't tell if the crowd was their for the music or if they were friendly or what not, oh well. openers played some interesting stuff, i only recognized beltram tbh. he came on kind of late 2 am i believe and people were already starting to leave. he delivered. ecstasy ecstasy BOOM energy flash comes on and temporarily went bonkers. needed a good set after the last few disappointments. thank you otherland for the good night ! can't believe I'm going to techno shows in an ink venue either. at least some ones booking techno though. back for robert hood no doubt |

| ^^^^ My buddy went and said the crowd was pretty embarassing/didn't seem to be responding to the "face-ripping" tunes. |

| There was a lot of standing and staring going on, didn't converse with many but when beltram came on I just took my spot and danced |

The biggest complaint about Coda (other than the lines, usually worest in the city and im including top 40 clubs, not bad that night) is they never allow the headliner to play "one more track"... that really does bother me....

Sasha played his Hot Chip - Flutes last year on Canada Day @ EI as his encore.
That was a great EI party btw... actually all 4 last year were good in its own way. |

Yeah its pretty ty that Coda does that... Tale of Us also saved Diplo at that burning man set lol
Art Department was soooo dope... I ahve yet to hear a bad set from them... 4am last call was proper... they closed about 430ish... kenny and nitin played b2b to close the night which was aiiight... but yeah great night at Maison, good looking crowd, the douche level was not as bad as previous nights... I like Maison despite what some may say... They play decent music and its a clean crowd... its nice to be around cleaner ppl than some of the rift raft at other spots...
up next i think digweed or possibly another guv event... i would like go to go twice before they close.... |

Cleanliness and dance music don't belong together. |

Now that I have safely emerged from the hell that was listening to a ton of horrible trance mixes, I can now comment on the amazing weekend that was last long weekend:
Fri - Guy J Cruise
Amazing time! I actually danced (rare these days, lol). Hadn't done a night cruise since a Destiny one in like... 2005. Exceeded expectation.
Sat - Summerdaze @ Fort York
Good jam. Venue was well suited for the music/crowd. Enjoyed their other jams at the Burroughes Building but not a fan of Gossip as a venue.
Mon (Day) - Tale of Us / etc. @ Electric Island
Perfect way to end the 'summer'! I go to these more for the social atmosphere other than the music but a friend has been BUSTING my balls about Tale of Us all year so I was happy to actually hear one of their sets live. I liked it... even better than the funnel cake I had earlier.
Mon (Night) - EI Afterparty - Tale of Us / etc. @ Coda
It's funny ...but... this was actually my first time at Coda. Full on sound and good layout + A/C that works. Very good. |

Art Department killed it. I got in around 3 and stayed for about an hour. When I walked in they were transitioning from a more tech to house sound which was terrific to hear. Around 3:30 they dropped Ob Ignitt - Oh Jabba which was the absolute highlight of my night. Hearing that on a Funktion 1 was pure bliss.
I think this is the point ItalianPoison is making. There's so many positives about the club that outweigh the fact that it's 'mainstream.' It's great venue to bring friends who aren't necessarily seasoned underground partiers. |
