there was no line up outside, inside different story. my personal take on the crowd was they saw ben klock on RA dj poll and showed up. didn't seem like they knew what song was what. there were definitely a few people there that did know though. also there was a large amount of gay people there compared to the average show. quite a lot of people doing coke in the stalls, couple of bros using the word bro every often in the washroom too. didn't smell any weed for a while, so really can't say. i don't see why they would kick some one out for burning on the patio but allow a couple people in one stall to do keys. don't have a problem with either tbh.

How exactly does one ascertain whether or not other people knew what song was what? (and does it really matter? So long as people are down to hear new music and have a good time what's the difference)

I have no idea where the review thread is, if the mods wanna consolidate this thread with the review one, I'm more than okay with that, but I just have to talk about this place and the nights I went on somewhere here.
I managed to check this place out for the first time on April 4th for Nora En Pure. My first time seeing her live as well. My first impression of the club was that I liked the entrance...they have these large glass doors you walk through and these small set of stairs get up to the main entryway. Everyone seems to be impressed with Coda's LED lighting but Red takes it up a crazy notch as they have so many more and way more different lighting effects. I know some peeps don't like the glitz and glamour but I say bring it on dammit. This place also seems to attract more girls too which is a bonus. The DJ before Nora was Human Nature and I dunno...this guy goes from playing Madonna to Maceo Plex's remix of Crossfade. He also played Stardust- Music Sounds Better than You. I was pretty mixed about the set...it was nice to see a change of pace from all these underground tracks but the set flow seemed to be all over. Nora came on around 1 AM and I thought she was alright. It was nice to hear EDX's remix of Uraguay. She also played Lost by Amine Edge and Dance, Sir Felix- Hope (Nora En Pure Remix) and some of her other tracks. She also gave out a few tank tops as well and I managed to grab one of the three. She played until 3 AM. The crowd overall was cool, similar to Coda's attitude wise. This club also has a basement section as well where it's possible to have another event going as well. Their bathrooms are HUGE as well, many stalls.
Second nite for Teenage Mutants on April 10th was way slower. I was really disappointed that the promoters didn't do a good job of promoting it plus it didn't help that his plane got hijacked by two crazy ladies on his way here. ON top of that, Tchami and John Talabot were also playing in different clubs on the same nite (Maison and Coda). There musta been like literally 20 people there. He played one of my requests (Teenage Mutants, Th;en- The Unhappy Song) as well which was nice. I really love his production work, he played for almost two hours. I spoke with him after and he said he might not come back to Red which is a shame and instead to Coda. He was obviously not happy with his Tdot debut. Some girls were telling him to come to CZ to play, but when they told him that it was locals spinning tech house/techno in an afterhours environment he pretty much rejected it lol.
Overall, I like this club but the promotions team needs to step it up a bit. The staff at this place is super friendly and this place can do it up big with the main room and basement section. They're bringing the heat with some of the bookings now so hopefully it continues. They put in a lot for work into this place into redesigning it.

review of rebekah and phase at ryze :
quick in, don't remember what time i got there at but it had to have been after 12. jamie kidd was playing. nice set from him as per usual. place was not very busy. the volume was also rather low for the first bit. phase was really good. i thought ben klock pounded it out but phase played harder. he seemed not that into it,didn't look at the crowd once. my friend said he was speaking to him outside after though. rebekah came on. DAMN she is attractive. there was lots of energy in her set, holy crap. it kinda reminded me of when i saw hood last year ( energy wise ) i was really enjoying her. biggest knock though is it became rather monotone. but the sheer energy of the music kept me there. couldn't ID any of rebekahs stuff as i don't listen to her productions or sets quite often. my friend said she was way better than klock, but i disagree. the place was kind of dead towards the end. she definitely deserved a bigger crowd than what showed up. tempted to lay low until detroit but graze is playing this friday and might end up checking them out

That's how I find out about some artists, I'm not spoiled with international artists in my backyard every weekend, so I tend to look them up on Soundcloud etc first. But if I had anything compared to the lineups you guys in Toronto have had in the past few years, I'd just be randomly going to parties for my first impressions or exposure to many artists. I do the same thing at festivals, if I have some spare time, I wander and check out new artists who've I heard about or noticed some hype about.

I do myself and I think some other peeps do to but the popularity of edm can't be ignored so you will have a lot of ppl invading coda and ryze and what ever club that trc is promoting... coda is seen as a "cool" club (from what I gather) and theres a large amount of kids coming in and are there just to be there not for "insert top underground dj here"...
im still chessed maceo plex sold out in a day, but that was due to his popularity...

I was prob going to go see maceo but I've moved on from that sound over the past few years. His productions the past year I thought were dope but after a few listens I got bored. I need that innervisions sound to just go away. I don't get to see many house shows or deep shows anymore :(
