As is with any mobike device these days. Mac, ios, android, windows... Just the open wifi thing is a particularly annoying feat for windows. Oh well...

It's not actually technically true - during the install, it asks you to connect to a wifi spot. You can choose no.

At no point does it automatically connect to an open wifi hotpsot - it will only do so if you make it, even on the auto install.

It seems a fair few manufacturers (Avid, RME, Metric Halo, Lynx) are still getting their together for new drivers. Some work some don't.....

Waiting till Steinberg gives the ok for Cubase... I hear people have it working fine, but I am in no rush to upgrade to something I don't even know if I want :p

I stand corrected. Than every OS (mobile or desktop) is pretty much the same regarding privacy. Only linux does not seem to gather user data anymore :)

From what I've heard the overall experience is very positive. I'll just hold off the upgrade until I can afford my new laptop and then hand it off to my wife with W10 on it.

Still not sure if mac is worth it. Their European prices are bonkers compared to US. But that is a different story :)

If you're on 8 or 8.1 it won't be all that different - on the surface at least. It improves a lot of tiny annoyances but still looks and feels like Windows. It's as if 8 was the beta and this is the final version.

So true about pricing for mac in Europe. In some instances (like a ful spec mac pro) it's actually cheaper to fly to NY, buy it and bring it back (with flights included) than buy it in Euros or Pounds. ing bonkers when you add some countries' sale tax (such as the UK at 20%).

OK, so I thought I would give an update on this and hopefully it helps some people.

After installing windows 10 on my old ASUS laptop as a test, I had decided to a fresh install on a brand new SSD that I was installing on my newer Lenovo laptop.

I pulled the old HDD, installed the SSD and all went well - in face the W10 on the SSD boots in under 7 seconds - it's pretty damn impressive.

...but the problem was activation and let this be a wanring to anyone else out there when doing a fresh install:

To get a legit activation of W10, you have to go though the long winded upgrade process from W7 or W8, as this is the only the way your product key gets converted to a valid W10 product key. They will NOT do anything with a serial number to "convert" it - you have to do the upgrade process or buy a license,

So I thought I had come up with a clever work around - I had done the fresh install on the new SSD all was fine but this was never going to allow me to activate it using the "unconverted" product key as this was a 8 key.

However, I still had the old W8 HDD, so my plan was then boot from old HDD via a USB SATA adapter, then update it to windows 10, get the product key and then boot back in to the installed SSD and do the activation for windows 10.

Here is where M$ ed me, hard.

The upgrade of my old HDD for some reason went badly wrong. It looked like it had worked but took about 90mins so I knew something wasn't right. then the first time it booted in to W10 it took 5 mins to get to the home page and was crawling to the point it was like an elongated crash.

I powered down and from that moment on, the drive has refused to be recoginsed, even in BIOS. Unless I just so happened to have the incredible coincidence of a mechanical failure right at that moment, Windows ed my drive in to the grave.

Yep, so now I can't do the upgrade to the old drive and gain a valid key.

I spend two hours waiting in the windows tech queue to chat to a agent, and he told me I only have two options:

1, Downgrade my SSD back to 8.1., convert the key via upgrade then do a whole fresh install of 10 and use the key for activation.

2, Buy a new licence.

ers.

I'm thinking I'll just get an old drive I have kicking around and do a update from that to 10,, and hopefully it won't my drive again.

Oh and for anyone that doesn't want to wait for the upgrade to happen, here's how you force it:

6 sec is pretty slow. windows 10 boots instantly for me, I don't even get to see windows loading screen (1.6 sec).

This could make things interesting for all those producers, gamers, etc who don't pay for their software:

Windows 10 can seek out pirated software

Of course, if it screws up, it could also be a nightmare for those of us who do...

I hope they make that work.

Platforms like Steam and iRacing can work seamlessly, and although I know a whole operating system is a different kettle of fish it would be good to see that blaggers suffer a bit.

MS have been doing this for awhile now and this EULA was updated to add windows 10 in. The EULA runs across all devices that runs windows 10, which xbox is going to be running. MS disabling mod chip Xbox and firmware hacked x boxes is nothing new.

I'll only be upgrading depending how successful directx12 is in fulfilling its promises, I cant be arsed to build new machines, pc parts are overly expensive; I never feel I get my money's worth thats for sure.
