U.S & obesity (pg. 3)

I'm sure entitlement culture has a lot to do with it. Had a bad day? I deserve this ice cream. Had a really great day? I deserve this case of beer and pizza. Work really hard? I earned this dinner out. I deserve to be treated. I'm entitled to feel good. Instant gratification. Etc. etc.

When I was in Buffalo in the spring to look at bridesmaid dresses, we went to eat before crossing the border and for 3 of us to eat our bill was just under 25 dollars. Two of us actually ordered off the app menu and the portions were just ridiculously huge. It seemed criminal. Just sickening how "normal" that is.

It didn't even take long for obesity to become the norm, either. It's pretty sad going to the beach and seeing that most people are overweight and probably don't do any physical activity. Fit people are the anomaly now. 20-30 years ago it was more rare to see even a slightly unfit person getting half naked at the beach.

There is also the whole body image war that's adding to this sense of entitlement too. "Normal" women getting all butthurt by media representation of the "ideal woman" being peddled by supermodels. So now you have companies like Dove pushing their real woman campaigns and stuff - and not that I don't think that's great...but now you've got straight up fat, unhealthy people saying "THIS IS OK BECAUSE IT'S WHAT'S INSIDE THAT COUNTS. I DESERVE TO FEEL BEAUTIFUL." When actually, it isn't ok because it isn't about beauty at all - the bottom line is it's unhealthy, and if you dare comment on how unhealthy it is then you're the bad guy and superficial, you have unrealistic expectations of beauty, etc.

It's what's inside that counts.

Namely all that visceral fat piling up around your organs and spilling lipids and inflammatory hormones into your arteries.

^^^^ Bahahahaha :stongue:

Oh, and then there's ads for stuff like Slim Band that subliminally set people up to fail by promoting laziness. The ads themselves say "Losing weight doesn't have to be difficult!" And that right there puts in people's minds that being well should be a cake walk, when the reality is it IS work to stay fit and be well. Again it's that entitlement.."Why should I have to work hard at anything? I deserve whatever I want, just because!" You know? Like, why put effort in like a sucker when all these companies are saying you shouldn't have to?

Nobody gets a free ride, but the companies that want people to buy their would rather have people believe everything is a quick fix.

Mmm speaking of cake I had wedding cake last night.

Make sure you get a good caterer last night sucked.
Silky Johnson
Lol, we do have an excellent caterer. And we aren't doing wedding cake. :o

I thought my wife was too fat before (She just had a kid, but I want...she was 110 when we got married), and I thought i was getting fat (I am.)...after eating with a group of people visiting from Houston today...I feel like a stud.

Don't worry Jenny, you'll be chubby whubby soon, after those quadruplets pop out.
Jon_Snow
I eat like horse but still tin as rail.

You only marry once jenny you should have cake you deserve it

Dessert is on the menu, just not an actual wedding cake. It's lame, and a waste of money. Nobody ever eats it!
Chimney
I want cake.

So true. Was walking around town with the friend who visited America a few hour earlier and we were discussing this exact thing: Fit or normal-weight people are scarce now. Especially in teenagers where almost every woman is obese now.

In all hypocrisy...I kinda feel like McDonalds tonight :/

I can't wait until my son's first birthday cake. Already ordered...colourful and crazy...no one is eating it, because it is going on his face and the floor. This used to be a recurring theme in my life, and now, i've passed it on.

And my son is a huge bastard...we went to the aquarium with a kid 5 months older...and mine was bigger. Pythons.
