I stated pretty clearly the desire to join was for the community connection, and that the religious aspect of it was inconsequential. Additionally, I stated that there are many progressive churches here that aren't all in your face about the religious aspect of it. Not once did I say, or even imply, that the reason for wanting to join a church was to seek a connection with God/Jesus/religion.

i asked a few coworkers that are in their 40s and 50s just now if i was crazy and apparently what you're talking about was a thing 10 years ago but now who ing knows. even still the people in those "churches without the religion aspect" are still zealous.
listen bottom line, you're gonna be in an area where religion and like that is the foundation. you're gonna come into that scene regardless if you want to just go there and make friends. i dont see how you're so naive to this or why im an idiot for thinking as much but ok man. maybe i have to go check it out and see if im off base here.
i find it really hard to believe you can go to a church, find some cool groups with some cool people without having to deal with the side helping of your lord savior.
you seem like an bitter old angry trashcan that hurls insults at people left and right which is really odd since you're a nurse and the exact opposite of people in the medical field. two of my buddies are residents and when i hang out with their crew of MDs they're some of the nicest people.
