this thread is pure poo, it shows nothing but austrailians thinking they are the only people in this world affected by 9.11

that is absolute bull. there are many posts here making very valid and non-attacking points. Re-read SQ-K's post for example.

I don't claim to know you, I'm only judging by what you have posted here in this thread. I have no doubt of your good intentions towards these victims. And I'm protecting my fellow aussies because you seem to think this thread is an attack on every American, however most of it is not so please don't dismiss all the quality argument and blame everyone for the one or two people who posted half-seriously.

TranceEyes, shouldn't you be going out and helping the "victims" and the victims families?

Wait, what's this? 1425 posts in 8 months on TA? you must have alot of time on your hands.

*can't help but put in his 2 cents as everyone else seems obliged to*

to the aussies: they're obviously very overcome with grief u cant expect em to get what ur sayin

to the american's: whilst yes we do mourn your losses, 9-11 signalled for us a chain of events we didn't really want to be a part of, which is sorta y we are the way we are

summary: agree to disagree

have a nice day!!!!

yours faithfully,

if I show my sympathy & respect for September 11 every single year then the whole world including the USA must acknowledge and make an issue out of the following dates every year

15th of April, 1912 - Titanic Sunk
15th of April, 1989 - Hillsborough Disaster
19th of April, 1994 - Oklahoma bombing
25th of April, ???? - Anzac Day
28th of April, 1996 - Port Arthur Massacre
29th of May, 1985 - Heysel disaster
31st of July, 1997 - Thredbo disaster
12th of October, 2002 - Bali Bombings
15th of August, 1998 - Omagh Bombing

and theres more like the day of the Columbine massacre...etc

Add: 16th of March 1968 - My Lai Massacre
Solstice
i cant believe people are still arguing about this...

Anyways, tranceEyes, i think you should re-read this post, i think it pretty much sums up what we're all thinking

(thanks SK-Q)

quote:
I'm certain we all have sympathy for those people who died in the attacks. I think there's just a certain amount of cynicism that's been generated in response to American unilateral policy in the wake of the September 11 tragedy.

Time to stop playing the "We got attacked, so now the US deserves everybody's bleeding-heart sentiments for all time" card. It was tragic, and it was an abhorrent act, but the US went into Afghanistan for retribution. This I agree with. Then there was Iraq. This, I do not, and neither do most Australians. According to established convention, that was an international crime. Blatant disregard for the United Nations and the sovereignty of another nation-state is NOT justified by the tragedy of September 11.

The people who died have my eternal sorrow. Americans, as a whole, do not. I can't respect an attitude where criticism of a government going to war is 'unpatriotic'. A "superpower" with little regard for the world it could potentially dominate is just as bad as fundamentalist terrorism.

now please respond to this and tell us how we are ignorant? ( which by definition would imply that we are some how ignoring or mocking your pain.)

i'm not going to insist that y'all appreciate, observe or even consider sept. 11 because it probably didn't affect you. but please have some respect for the people it did affect because it's still a very raw and painful subject for many.

regardless of your opinions of america, americans, terrorism or anything else you can tie to this, it doesn't change the fact that thousands of people died in a morning that changed our world.

i'll never forget the three minutes it took for me to run from my classroom to a phone, crying so hard i could barely see, to call my father who is a pilot for american airlines -- he was supposed to fly a trip that morning and his trip was out of d.c. i've never felt such relief as when he answered the phone.

so here i am, crying again because the pain is still fresh. i don't expect y'all to understand or care, but please be respectful of our pain.

Respect. Perhaps one of the only decent foreign posts in this thread. Thank you. Its a shame what you went through.

The difference between daffodils posts, and the other foreign posts are that she/he offers incite into what they went through and leaves it at that. No catchphrases, no rhetoric, and most importantly she/he didnt try to force their opinion upon us.

TO the australian crew..

please hear this with a sencere voice:..
If I could only forget the events that shattered my life that day maybe I wouldn't be so quick to argue and post any mean or cruel remarks towards you for disrespecting the horror we in the states have faced. I helped with the 9/11 clean up at the Pentegon... and I've watched children cry as they had to watch a casket of their mom's things (not even her) be buried. I'd like to appologize for any offense I posted towards you... I'm a single mom of three adorable kids now because of 9/11 only my husband didn't die... he's part of the military.. never the less its horrible! And now with IRAQ.. i live each day wondering if he's okay or will be coming home.. for me this is emmotional and I pray you never have to experience the deaths we have or losses we've endured...

-with much love-

maybe if u actually moved on and stopped living in the past you'd realise just how much of a tyranny america is itself! - look at our own John Howard sucking on Bush's ass just so he can pick up some of the oily "benefits" from the war on Iraq

America thinks "We're the best, lets build the biggest buildings in the world, lets give other countries weapons of mass destruction, then they'll know how powerful we are and will respect us" newsflash - MIDDLE EAST WILL NEVER RESPECT AMERICANS

and waging war over every incident that occurs and killing thousands of lives in other countries isnt exactly a way imo to get respect from other countries!

people say america is patriotic? i prefer the word arrogant
