I'm sure you and your mother and your sisters are great people. And I'd love to believe that there are good people like that all over the place, I've spent years forcing myself to believe that in spite of the overwhelming evidence that's been presented to me... and I've just about given up. I think I've earned my right to be cynical, and if you have to wonder why I'm so cynical then you need only look at some of the other posts in this thread. Romance died ever since it became one-way romance, synonymous with a high-schoolish kind of unrequited love.
I was a romantic, nothing but a hopeless romantic, one time. But that part of a person is usually the most fragile, definitely the easiest to break, and having it walked on and crushed time and time again hasn't left me with much optimism or much to give.
Oh well. Someday I'm sure I'll find that perfect person who renews my faith in love and romance and makes me remember everything I'd forgotten, right? Hahahaha... not holding my breath.
I am not saying I don't believe you though, jasmyn... just that you seem to be among this group that I always *hear* about but never seem to meet. |
i won't go calling myself a feminist but i do believe in some of the ideals and i am proud to be an independent woman. :D but i don't think that you should generalize all feminists because they aren't all out to hurt men and put them down. many are just more educated and in some ways, men can't deal with that :p .. to some men, the idea that their wife/gf may be smarter than them is outrageous. this leads into sexism, etc, and that's a whole other thread! ;)
it's too bad that many of the women you have encountered have hurt you in lots of ways. i have no excuses for them but coming from my own experience and looking back at my own actions .. i was young and learning about what it's like to be a girl and i'll be the first to admit, i've done stupid things in my time and hurt a couple boys here and there but it's a constant learning process. and guys have hurt me as well but i'm not swearing off the entire male population! as we get older, we learn about who we are as individuals and more about the opposite sex. everyone makes mistakes, and we can act stupidly without thinking sometimes.
i guess what i'm getting at is that you shouldn't be so quick to judge .. there is hope out there for everyone, whether you choose to believe it or not.
cheers. :) |

Thank you for proving my point. It's nice to know that young girls everywhere are learning to view the world in terms of stereotypes and conforming to them as necessary.

Oh so I suppose that quotes like:
quote: | hmm not really... guys are romantic so they can get laid.... thats my opinion and I realise thats sort of a steryotype but it seems to be the truth:rolleyes: |
are just the absolute truth and have nothing to do with bitterness, because your deductive powers are supreme and at your age you know just about everything right?
---Jasmyn, thanks for the insight. :) You seem like a very intelligent person and I'm glad to see a few sane posts in this thread. And I'm happy for you that your philosophy is working out for you. Right now, I choose not believe, and if somebody out there wants to prove me wrong then go ahead... your funeral. :p |

The difference between you and I is that I don't think this gives me the right to be selfish too. I still hold to certain principles regardless of whether or not other people appear to respect them.
I also know for a fact that I'm generalizing and that there are probably some decent people out there, just that by the time you catch onto the people who aren't so great, it's usually too late. :sadgreen:

I disagree. TRUE love is selfless and does not need to be reciprocated. |
i agree, true love is selfless. you can truly love someone and be content and not expect anything in return. but if you never do anything nice or romantic once in a while, whether it be a kiss, or just an "i love you", or if its never reciprocated then the relationship would be one-side. it's part of human nature to want to belong somewhere, to someone.
expanding on your point, i think that true love is a feeling shared between two people and you know its there without having to say a word. it's a look that says "everything is going to be alright" without actually having to speak any words. it's a small kiss on the lips that can ignite a fire. it's a chemistry that only exists between two people who compliment each other, mind, body and soul.
romance and true love are two very different things but they do go hand in hand. |

Love:A deep, tender, ineffable feeling of affection and solicitude toward a person, such as that arising from kinship, recognition of attractive qualities, or a sense of underlying oneness.
Romance:A strong, sometimes short-lived attachment, fascination, or enthusiasm for something
which would you rather have. Screw romance, its something the rose and diamond industry invented. Plus I hope you found irony in a dictionary.com definition of Romance.
Plus good luck finding either one in this miserable global village. Go smoke pot you hippies. |
