Bal en Blanc @ Palais des Congrés (11/04/04) (pg. 6)

Ok, so i slept for like 14 hours, omg.

So here is my full review:
Me and a few friends got to the palais when preach was playing at around 11-12. The security was nuts this year, but it was ok even though it probably made a lot of people nervous :nervous:. It personally made me feel safe, even though we live in a safe city;)

I didn't really listen in to Preach set because i was meeting ppl left and right and socializing, however i heard some sick tunes that visibly got the crowd ready for armin. It was nice meeting preach after his set as well! Really Cool guy, and was the total opposite to Mr. stuck up Van Dyk.

Before armin came on, i went to the bathroom (the one outside, with the stairs going up) and almost got lost. I took the emergency exit as told, however the door downstairs was closed, and the door upstairs was shut as well, and i was going nuts lol. But then some people came down and as a group we figured it out after 5 minutes or so lol! The security guy that was supposed to be at the door (to let the ppl in) went to take a piss himself or something :whip:

Armin played a great set as usual, and i was super happy when he got on. In my opinion, i prefered the set he played at Aria in october, however i really enjoyed what he played and his friendly attitude was cool.

THANKS TO MALEK, LOUIS AND JFL, for getting me and monika into the funken Aria vip :), you guys are the best! Was nice meeting all the familiar faces (meo and a bunch of other non-TAs), and the non-familiar ones as well! Without you guys, the party wouldn't be the same at all.

Ok, during one point in the night i went to the playground room. I'm not a real big fan of house (to dance), and i wasn't sure who was spinning, however some really really weird song with screeching noises was played and i got scared and ran back to the aria room.

Paul van dyk was ok, and i was not dissapointed, however it was not the best. I was expecting something better for a dj with such an amazing rank and reputation. I did however enjoy the set, and danced like a crazy lunatic. At one point me and a friend jumped up on the speakers (chillout room side), and went nuts with the other 3 hotties on there   :D. At the end of Pvd's set i was walking back and forth between the two rooms, and i was really enjoying my walks because of:

THE GIRLS

Furthermore, i was happy with Marco G, and chilled with louis in the aria room. He played some great songs but I was dead tired by then and couldn't really dance :(.

To conclude, It was worth paying every penny for this party, and i will not forget it, ever.

Well I can't express how much I'm glad that at the last minute I managed to pull it together to be there. I was there last year and thought it was great, but this year was just incredible. They covered all the flaws of last year and made the perfect party. Since I didn't manage to get a VIP ticket, I showed up around 11, to avoid any line up problems that were a problem last year for non VIP holders. We walked in with such ease that I kinda wished I'd just drank longer at the hotel. Anyways, Preach was an awsome opening and really kept up his rep for Montreal's premier dj, and Armin came on and played like it was one of his first parties ever....I mean he was right into it, jumping around and always showing his love for the crowd. He really mixed a good variation of good older tracks and new stuff. PVD came on after and once I heard like the third same track that Armin had previously played I bounced over to the 'house room'. As for that, I couldn't believe it...sick set up, everywhere you looked was eye candy, whether it was the room itself or the women bouncin around everywhere!! As for the music, don't get me wrong, I loved it all, I caught lots of Lafleche, and almost all of deep dish, but they played a lot harder than there normal style. It was like they had all been told to play extra hard that night. It was great though, the crowd loved it all, and Deep Dish did still throw in many of there killer remixes. Anyone know the name of the song that Lafleche played that had a vocal that went "I just want to listen to techno" or something like that, that song was mint. Well...I could go on for ever since it was such an amazing time, but all I'll finish with is that I'll be there again for sure!!

I went up to Bal en Blanc from Ottawa with Shaun, Roman, and Yelena.

The venue was great. I thought that place was clean, and it was big enough to move around. If I got tired I could sit down somwhere and still listen to the music without someone right on top of me. Washrooms looked like they were respectable enough so that you could actually take a dump if you have to.

The women were great. Some of the hottest chicks were there. I've seen more skin at Bal en Blanc than I've ever seen in one place!!! NICE! I was really "up" for this event.

Organization of the event seemed pretty good. Although we did not get VIP, which was promissed to us, everything else was great. The lines were moving good. The 'pat-downs' were quick and non-intrusive (so to speak). Security was cool --when directing people they were not pricks about it.

Sound was great. No complaints there. Although I though the speakers on either side of the DJs were rocking. I thought Malek was going to get squished, because the speakers were about to fall over. lol

Balloons on the ceiling were a nice touch. I just hated when the ing balloons hit me in the head 15+ times. I finally had enough and grabbed every balloon in my ficinity and stomped on them. I think I popped a half-dozen balloons.

I caught the last hour and a bit of Preach's set. It was actually alot more entertaining that I'm used to from him. I have been really critical of his crap in the past, but the last hour was decent from him. He got the crowed going pretty good, and I can totally see how people like the music he was playing (unlike the repetitive prog he usually plays). I'm not a big fan of him, but I give him props anyway. Everything seemed kool exept that ing jungle beat song. Sooo gay!

Armin came on and I was bored. The guy on the ing smoke machine was going crazy at this point. The first 4 or 5 songs bored me until he played some epic. Then I was happy. But it was short lived. I guess I had high expectations from armin after I saw him last summer in Ottawa on Friday, then again in T.O. on a saturday. He was amazing then. But at Bal en Blanc I say he was "ok".

Then PVD came on. He was playing playing hard. He also played some of the gayest remixes of some great trance tunes that I've ever heard. It was pretty boring, actually. He did have me dancing for a bit though. But I wouldn't say he was as good as Armin. All in all, I saw he was a disappointment.

IMHO everything about the night was great, exept for the music. I totally didn't hear what I was expecting. I'm sure others loved it, but I didn't hear what I wanted to hear out of Armin & PVD.
I guess I was really hyped about this event because my two favorite DJs were spinning. I even went despite the fact that I have two papers due on Wednesday (still haven't started either as of yet).

The best part of the night was when Armin dropped Push - Strange World. Right at the first beat at the top of the build-up, the visual jockey cued the lights! Right at the BOOM of the bass there was a surge of light that filled the hall. Now that was sick. It seemed like this visual jockey knew what he was doing (exept for the smoke machine). Sickness! He did it again for another song, but I can't remember which. Good job on his part.

I kinda feel like I didn't get my value worth at $90 plus gas to come all the way from Ottwa because I didn't hear what I wanted to hear. But the ing girls were amazing. Those french girls...omg :-) No need to say that I needed my girl as soon as I got home.
