we could hav atleast gotten a draft pick or something .. i highly doubt he's gonna resign here .. i dunno what Babwas (or wasn't) thinking

If there was a decent deal for Marshall, there is no doubt in my mind that Babwould have made it.

My bets are that he couldn't ship out Marshall without packaging Rose, and although Rose is overpaid, he's a damn fine veteran. It would leave a huge hole in the lineup. What would we have left @ SG/SF, Mo Pete?

Also the rumours often mentioned the Knicks for Donyell, and I hardly think we want to help our biggest rival in the midst of a playoff race.

I have no problem holding onto Donyell and making a run @ a playoff spot. It'll be the 8th seed if we make it, but I'm comfortable with the attempt over some picks that might crap out.

that's true...I'd think the most we'd have rec'd was a 2nd rounder though?

I'd honestly rather see the Raptors attempt to make a run, or at least finish well, and have Marshall in the lineup to help them.

Ditching him for a pick would have been admitting this season was now a complete write off.

Although one thing I didn't realize is that we're so far over the cap, that when he leaves next year, his contact being gone does *nothing* for us to be able to sign a free agent :(

i always thought that most of the competitive teams were over the luxury cap anyway

MarkT
most are...but we're not exactly "competitive" right now, lol :D

I thought Marshall contract being gone would free up cap room...but all it does it reduce how much OVER the cap we'll be. So it's a money saving move for the Raptors' ownership, nothing more :(

the thing is, at the beginning of the season, all the atlantic teams were pretty much even. Now, all of them but the Raps have upgraded so their playoff chances are pretty much gone.

I think we could have gotten a first-rounder for Marshall. I'm not sure why a lot of teams are chasing this guy though. He hasn't been that consistent recently.
MarkT
First rounder? hmmmmm...I dunno...I highly doubt that.

A first rounder from a serious contender, maybe...but then that's likely a low pick anyway. I can't see a middle ground team whose 1st rounder would be really worth something actually giving up that pick just for Marshall.

I look at it this way...making trades to keep up with the competition is a poor way of running a team when you're not a serious contender. I'd rather see them make smart moves than just make moves because everyone else is making a move. For all we know, there were no decent deals on the table for Marshall that actually would have helped us out next year...taking on long term contracts for players that wouldn't really address a serious need (e.g. Malik Rose) is pointless...I'd rather see Marshall go and give people like Bonner and E. Williams some more playing time next year.

Your right for the most part.
The Raptors could basically gain nothing for just making
a trade to make the playoffs. They're not going anywhere anyway.
Worst thing to do is to just make a trade for the sake of making a trade. In the BIG picture, its best to look past this season and
bring someone in who can help Bosh in the future.

maybe Raps are gonna try to sign Marshall for a long term contract?

would it be smart to do so?

if he delivers, sure... there are another 28 games left, who knows. he might blow up in the rest of the season for Raps...

How old is Marshall? Thirty something?
He's a good bench player, and I don't think Raps are willing to shell out big bucks for a bench player.
