What does 'Trance' Mean To You...

Maybe I’m being a bit ‘cosmic’ in saying this but I feel Trance makes you feel like no other music genre can. There’s a certain, unmistakable feeling I get when im in the middle of a club with my friends around me and a classic like Freefall – skydive gets dropped. A feeling that as far as im aware, people don’t get to experience with other types of music to this extent. If you’ve ever been to a beach rave and watched the sun rise while listening to trance I’d like to hope you’ll have an idea of what im on about. :)
For us who like trance going out clubbing is not all about grinding the girl in-front of you up to a song that you’re not really that bothered about. It’s about the music, having fun, and letting the stresses of the week go.

So I’m just wondering am I the only one who feels that we have so much more passion about our music or is this feeling shared……?

wow i havent seen one of these threads in a while, so ill keep my flame thrower aside for later....

trance is alot of things to different people. i just like to zone out and feel the music lie back in my recliner and fall asleep to some chicane. but i like the state of mind you get in when you have been listning to a set for a couple hours and time just kinda melts to nothing and you can sit there listning to music and do all for hours and not even notice..... and in the summers trance makes my 9 to 5 job bearable

When trance originally came about in the early 90's, it meant what the name said. Back then this music was extremely hypnotic, and used put you in a "trance" while listening to it, hence the name.
But nowadays modern trance is more of a feeling/emotion. In a way its like an electrnoic form of classical music. There are still hypnotic tracks being made, but its mostly Mainstream trance, with the usual, long breakdowns, with strings followed by a synth appregio, which gets boring after a while.
I find that progressive trance, and tech trance, stick closer to the name these days. They seem to be more hypnotic, than emotional.
These 2 prog tracks had a really hypnotic effect on me, I used listen to them every day, without getting fed up of them!
Dreamwaver - Liquid:MM
Accadia - Into the Dawn (James Holden Remix)

Agreed.
I ve noticed that since i started listening to trance i turned in a diff. person in some way, i'm more friend and more emotive when needed, and lots of good things... and I was a sad and melancholic person, now I m more happy and with a "good head" to think more about life... in a different way....
well, a bit difficult explain...

Tilt - I Dream (Tilt's Resurrection Mix)

That is trance to me. I love anthem and epic, techy and minimal, trippy and psychedelic, but nothing to this day can touch that glorious 98-00 progressive trance sound. It typifies the soul of the genre for me.

Oakey's EM World Tour '99 sets and Sasha & Digweed's Northern Exposure series (also their GU releases). Yeah, that's about it, and maybe some Harthouse/Eye Q stuff from the early nineties.

Trance these days doesn't interest me one bit. Even Christopher Lawrence and J00F bore the crap out of me.

trance for me, is my most common way to get emotional feelings.
it make me feel up in the sky.
and if you ask what type of trance, the answer will be melodic trance, or uplifting, if you want.

jaron inc - nothing to lose (airbase remix)
and more in my signature.

One of my favorites these two. Dreamwaver - Zombie is also nice. Trance to me is much more a listening experience than it was before. Back in 98 it was more about getting a kick out of takeoffs etc. Now I listen to progressive, breaks, tech-trance, tech-house and so on like 5 hours a day. And when I don't get my daily fix I really miss the music, totally addicted I guess.

DjArTiN!
The real meaning of it is "hypnotic" just like some of the guys replied.

Some of the old Paul Oakenfold cd's and some of the old Tiesto Cds like forbidden paradise.

I always get into a "trance/hypnotic" feel when I listen to :

Solar Stone - Seven Cities

but there's a load of other songs that have this feeling. I mean ALOT.

Try some System F stuff too, which always do the trick.

Most old stuff are always like that.

On a side note, doesn't it really piss you off when you hear people refer to trance as "techno" and that there is no differance between the two.......
