I always thought that womens stuff (like clothes) were cheaper than mens? :conf:
either way, I agree that women deserve lower prices, as shopping is their exercise :p , plus you're gonna pay most of the things when you are married or have a daughter anyways:D |

Unfortunately they aren't going to get lower prices, what they'll do is RAISE the pricing for Men. Men, being men, will no longer pay for things like haircuts and instead put out the cash for their very own buzz-shaver (whatever it's called). Suddenly women's haircuts will still be 100 bucks, and men will get theirs for free! Hair salons will go out of business, and eventually the increased demand for hair cuts on all the other businesses will lead to a raise in prices from $100 to $150 per haircut. The feminists will then lead a rebellion based somewhere along the lines of "If men can shave their heads for free, so can we!" and turn to the buzz-shavers as well. Hair Salons across the country will shut down, and then only the very rich and powerful (aka, Government workers) will be able to afford hair cuts. At the end of the ninth 3-year plan, hair salons will be banned for us pro... normal citizens. Leading to equality all around! |

Again ill never say that their economy is better but they arent as piss poor as you make them out to be either and they definately arent all criminals. |
First off, i never said they were criminals so i'm not sure where you got that from.
Secondly, i never said they are as poor as anything. It was you who is adamant at making comparisons between the two states. I know they aren't as poor as other countries, but they're definately poorer then people in Canada.
If you compare the poorest of the poor in Argentina with the poorest of the poor in Canada what you'll find is that not only are there MORE people living under the poverty line in Argentina, but that the poor people in Canada actually have more money then people living in the middle income bracket of a country like Argentina.
Of course living standards are different, and i don't dispute that you can live off much less in Argentina then you can in Canada. But so what ? With state wide problems like inflation and debt, the amount of money that the average Argentinian makes is simply much less then made by his/her counterpart in Canada. Not to mention the purchasing power of that money, and the levels of debt an individual has to pay off as a result of a stagnant economy. |

like i said... ive never claimed that their economy is better. But i want to make it clear that they arent as destitute as some people here make them out to be.
ALl ive said that is superior is their way of relating to others in a familial sense, a peer sense and a community sense. |

No one said they are destitute. By comparision though, they are well short of Canada -- that's an undeniable fact. There's a reason that third world countries economies are modeled after the capitalist first world nations -- yes, some of it has to do with dependancy theory, some of it due to extrnal pressure by institutions like IMF and World bank, but the bottom line is that third world countries aspire to have the sort of economic success demonstrated by first world nations.
Now what you classify as 'superior' is in actuality just a personal opinion on the culture present in Argentina. One that in fairness you are allowed to make, having actually lived in both countries. It sounds to me though like you're disenchanted with the capitalist model of soceity and the way that it has manifested itself through the thoughts and actions of the citizens of Canada. Maybe that's why you think that the situation in Argentina is superior...i'm not sure. I do know that you can't really back up that statement with any real data besides personal experience.
Hopeless romantics and patriots often draw up comparisons between the disparity of culture and society in the hopes that they will prompt change...i guess you are trying to do the same.
What i will say is that having lived in a third world country for 18 years of my life, family and community IS the most important thing becuase they in essence are your only security blanket. In a country where the government offers minimal support, you have to rely on your ability to bond with your fellow man and your family when it comes time to serve your own needs. |

BTW, just to veer back ontrack i'd say i agree with jay on some of his points. If they are going to implement these changes on the ground of equality, then clubs should be banned from having ladies nights. That is discrimination !
I woulda thought the reason for charging different prices for things like hair cuts and dry cleaning makes sense. Most men get their hair cut in 15 minutes or less, hence they get charged $15-$20. A woman will take an hour to get her hair done just right, and so the charge goes up. It's a question of how much time it takes, not what gender the customer is. If women want a cheap cut they can always just go to supercuts and get their hair done by a male barber... no way they'll get charged $50 for that . :p |
