I'm not sure if this question/comment was directed at me, however, I don't recall anyone else mentioning their wife so I will assume it was.
Of course she knows I think this way. See, she and I are both rather enlightened people and we are able to understand and recognize that there are differences between people and, yes, even the sexes. Some of those differences are physical (ie, she has a uterus therefore she'll get to carry the fetuses), some are socialogical (I have been raised with different values then she), and some are educational (I've been exensively schooled in the humanities and law, she's a biology and health sciences person.... I'll teach our children about politics, she can handle anatomy.... we'll likely call her brother "the engineer" to help out with math). Regardless of why the diffences exist, THEY DO EXIST. More importantly, it is a good thing they exist because if they didn't we wouldn't function nearly as well together as we do. Believe me, there is no a person who knows me that would ever accuse me of being two faced.... I will always tell you exactly what I thing. Most people say that is my biggest fault, I'm honest.... people dislike honesty. Right now you dislike me because I have told you things that you know to be true but would prefer would not because they do not fit with your idealized perception of how the world should be. Unfortunately, we do not live in the world that should be we live in the one that is. Please, continue to try to shape the world as you think it should be, if enough people agree with your vision then you will succeed, however, do not throw a temper tantrum and call people insensitive, chauvenistic, racist or what ever hot button word may apply simply because their view differs from your own. Again, this is another way in which there is inequality.... we do not all know the same things, we don't all have the same experiences, therefore we do not have the same opinions. I like it that way, clearly you do not.
The long and short of it is INEQUALITY EXISTS and INEQUALITY IS NECESSARY. INEQUALITY WILL ALWAYS EXIST because we as humans will not accept equality. The problem with equality is it diminishes individual rights, we will not stand for that because we all see ourselves as too valuable to be a secondary concern. |

What shocks me is how many "enlightened" people try to prevent persons with divergant views from expressing themselves. If I disagree then I'm chauvenist, or racist, or anti-semetic (why is there a special word for disliking the Jews anyway?), or some other word designed to convey a negative connotation. Really do they not know that "it is only by listening to everyone that we will ever hear the truth" (Adam Smith) |
