i agree. this kind of treatment should be considered to fall under the concept of torture. it is cruel, inhuman and degrading ill-treatment ESPECIALLY AFTER 15 YEARS!!!! of being kept alive artificially and having turned into a brain-dead vegetable!
imho, doctors who are causing/ allowing/ tolerating/ accepting/ condoning to -or whatever the case may be-, such suffering are not upholding the sacred medical oath! and people like her family are acting out of pure self-interest; understandably no parent wants to see their child die b4 them ... but comon!!!
it really should be made legal that everyone has to prepare a kind of 'will' should such a 'situation' occur. knock on wood that it doesn't, but it COULD happen to anyone at any given time, hence to avoid such agony and moral dilemma in the future for both parties and the rest of the interested world involved it should be everyone's responsibility to make it clear what each individual would want done in such a case!
>>> besides, what the hell is up with that rich guy offering the husband money?!?!?!
i'd say this should fall under the basic human rights clause to preserve some kind of human dignity! |

If it were clear that she was in pain or clear that she wanted it this way then id say let her die. However we don't know what she would want and she is obviously able to live on her own as long as she is fed. This is NOT the same as taking someone off life support. Imagine if someone tied you down and decided to let you starve to death. This is no different. |
No, it's totally different. She is not tied down, this is how she is in her natural state.
| quote: | | IF and only IF it was clear that she wanted this i'd support euthenasia in a dignified manner a la dr kevorkian but letting her die like this is inexcusable. |
Well we can never know either, so unfortunatly someone has to decide for her.
| quote: | | I have to question the husbands motives especially when he is still married to her for, in his own words "legal reasons" yet has 2 kids with another woman. |
Well jeez, you be married to her after 15 years, and see how you feel. As much as it probably hurts him to see his wife like that, he probably wants to go on with his life, and not have to be forced to see a person he loves like that for the rest of her natural life. I guess we can never know his true motives are, but I can only assume at best.

All i can say is after seeing this i'll be making a living will. |
I figure the parents are mentally disturbed, especially after 15 years of keep their daughter alive like this. The husband has the right idea, just let her die in peace and dignity and let this whole ordeal go. |

| Jay the thing is that she is brain dead...she cannot recover...she can't think, she's been in a coma-like state - completely unconscious for 15 years...there is no way out... |

| Just for the record I'm a lil bit on the fence on that one...I can understand both sides' point of view...but it's too complicated for me personally to rule on this. Either way I am sympathetic with the family but I completely understand the husband as well... |
