That man is her husband in name only. He has a new common law wife and children. He also stands to personally profit from Terri's death. The people best able to speak for Terri are her father, mother and siblings who've cared for her daily for 15 years. They are better able than anyone to assess her condition.

What dignity is there in starving to death?

That's ironic coming from someone who wants to see people killed.

Don't go making assumptions and putting words in my mouth...I don't want to see people killed....but most importantly, I don't want to see people suffer.

Terri's family, siblings and husband...they are all suffering
(and just because the husband found someone who could save him from the brinks of total depression and suicide doesn't make him less of a husband)

...but I'm sure none of their suffering compares to Terri's suffering
Terri has had to endure 15yrs of seeing life go on without her (her not being actively in it) and feeling lonely, inadequate, and unable to contribute or reciprocate to those that love her.

There is no dignity in death...there is only dignity in ending something that burdens the soul.

He is still legally married to Terri and cannot get a divorce. Thus, he can't marry the new woman.

It places his objectivity as guardian in question. He has to act in Terri's best interests, not his own.

In this case, he should be stripped of his guardianship and it should be given to Terri's next closet kin - her parents.

Good this stuff needs to be discussed in society. Hopefully this will motivate everyone to get a living will. I know i will be.

Funny how you are portraying me as a dick because i feel she should
live.

dick....your words not mine...but since you've stated it...then that's obviously what you must be feeling like, right now.

Oh I definately don't know you...but your words speak volume.

BTW...I could care less about jaded political statements.
However...it would be nice to hear you make some positive statements before the world ends according to you.

Wish i knew more about this case so i could make a concrete argument,
but from what i heard, according to the husband this is what she would want. If it was me on that bed with a tube strapped into my stomach so would I...

The husdand stuck toguether with his wife for a long time, during the recovery (before she became a veggie) and for years after... So what if the man whats to have kids? Have a real relationship? Let the guy move on...

i dont feel that way at all.. in fact i feel pretty good about my position on this matter. So to put it in your own words. Trying going through something similar like this yourself before you judge. ;)

August 1992:
Terri Schiavo is awarded $250,000 US in an out-of-court malpractice settlement with one of her doctors.

November 1992:
Terri Schiavo's husband Michael Schiavo wins a malpractice case against another of Terri's doctors. He is awarded about $750,000 US for her care and about $300,000 US for himself.

The excess money goes to her husband, not to mention insurance. :o

That man is a scumbag and is only looking after himself.

If it's clear she wanted to die then she should be allowed to be euthenized. If there is any doubt she should live. That, and the husband is a tool.

I'm not nec against allowing her to die. It's starving her to death and letting the husband decide after having 2 kids with another woman that i object to. I had a brother who was disabled (although had full mental capacities) so thats why i feel very strongly about this.

Apparently more than a few medical professionals have said that terri is oblivious (in a vegitative state)...

OK...I will....Oh wait...I have

My spouse found the the Will, Power of Attorney and my last letter with instructions...it was found on the day I was in hospital

Im not out to villify you for wanting her to live, its because you want to destroy what is proven to be her wishes
I dont care if she lives or dies
I want her wishes to be obeyed. Every court has agreed with the husband, and on numerous occasions denied claims made by the family.

As for him acting as her gaurdian...yuove got it wrong mr shadowolf.
Only in cases where a patient lacks an advance directive (which, as mentioned many courts have ruled she does not lack) does the surrogate decision go to the husband, or family in lack of husband. His job as her husband is to ensure that her wishes are carried through. That same job should be held to her parents EVEN IF they disagree with it.
If he were to lose power of attourney for some odd reason, and it would be truly odd in this case, then her parents should be forced to have the tube removed and to keep it out. If they win, and the feeding tube is reinserted, all of precedant in medical cases is made irrelevant, because a patients wishes are superceded by the wishes of the parents, who are not next of kin.

Her parents contest its not what she would have wanted...they haev appealed on this fact many times in teh past 2 weeks, and every time they have lost. Its not just mr. shiavo who is saying its her wishes to not be sustained artificially, friends are saying the same as well and judge after judge after panel of judges are agreeing.

oh, and the dignity comes from the ideal of dying by on ones own terms, and not being kept alive by non natural means.

Id also like to correct an earlier statement I made, she couldnt move to Oregon to take place in physician assisted suicide, she doenst meet any of the criteria. She couldnt make written or verbal requests, couldnt perform it herself, and isnt in a terminal condition near the end of life. So the only choice to euthanise her is to send her to Holland.

According to you and those that think like you, he's a scumbag.

But your not taking into account how much money and grief he's had to endure. I suppose you think that it would have been better if he hadn't won these lawsuits.
Perhaps, according to your views on life, it would have been better if he would have sunk into depression and then ended his life so that her parents could endure the financial stigma that comes when thrown into this sitation.

I suppose if the parents were making the choice...you'd have no objection :o

Hearsay doesn't constitute "an advance directive." There's no proof whatsoever that she would want to killed in this situation.

Also, the standard is "clear and convincing evidence." Hearsay, especially without an exception, can never rise to that standard. Even Ralph Nadar agrees with me on that.

Again, we don't know what she wanted. The only witness is her husband, who has a conflict of interest.
