iv seen kids get spanked. its harmless in the way they wont really get HURT. but it hurts them, how do u think it makes them feel... better to talk to them i say yarrr:thepirate |

i know exactly how it makes them feel because i've been spanked...a lot...

Yes there are different methods to discipling children but you have to accept that some children respond to spanking and it is a legit way of discipline and if parents use that method they are not worse parents because they do.
I dont mind people disagreeing on discipline methods but it bothers me when people think that parents beat their children and are bad parents if they spank. |

I see what you're saying but look at reality...many kids these days are the most disrespectful fcukers around...they bad mouth the out of their parents & when you see the parent attempting to discipline them, they don't listen. So many parents these days are way to lax on their kids...spoiling them & giving them the upper hand. It's as if you don't know who the parent is if you weren't looking at it.
I say some kids learn differently...I was spanked very little but sometimes I would get a look or a gesture that would let me know to tone it down and I did because I didn't want to be spanked but that doesn't work much these days.
Kids get worse with passing generations. These days I sometimes think spanking is even going too easy for some little brats I've seen. :whip: |

| there are obviously far better ways to deal with it, but that requires people to think their way through, and guess what? Bodily harm is quite the deterrent, so the kid gets spanked. |

My parents used to paddle the out of me as a kid. I swear I got spanked 3-4+ times a week, and I'd definitely say that I got more than I deserved. Even my kindergarten teacher paddled me (it's OK, I dated her daughter later in life). :)
My brother, who is 2.5 years younger, 22, than me got similar treatment. My sister, who is 6.5 years younger than me, 18, hardly ever was spanked (or punished in any other way to be honest). Now, it's my brother and I who are the successful ones. She was spoiled and always allowed to misbehave, and NEVER spanked and now it's caught up with her in some ways.
I definitely think my parents went overboard with how vigorously and frequently I was paddled (my dad broke a board over my ass once). :( That said, I do think that some children should be spanked at times. Things like timeouts, being grounded, etc., just don't work for YOUNG children (2-5), because they don't really understand the concept or feel any real penalty. It's the same as sticking a finger in a light socket, you learn not to do something because it will result in pain. My parents went way too late with the paddling, though. I mean, I think I was still being paddled at like 10, when other methods of discipline would have had a greater effect.
I think spanking definitely needs to be restrained and never done out of anger for what the child has done, but to teach a lesson. Angry parents have far too much ability to physically harm their child.
The last thing I want to point out is that even though I was spanked a lot as a child, I've never hit a girlfriend (even though some deserved it), or even really been in a fight since middle school, so for me, the violence correlation doens't apply. |
