I didn't get spanked, smacked or hit. My parents didn't scream or yell at us either. However, they were very strict.
I think if parents are attentive, patient, and communicate clearly, spanking isn't necessary.

| i remember being spanked ONCE in my childhood...my parents rarely ever did it. usually they talked to me about what i did in order to make me feel bad/guilty about it. that taught me that what i had done was wrong. I think all spanking does it teach children to FEAR punishment, not see the faults in their actions. then again, i'm a pacifist. |
