However mustn't we respect the decisions, values and judgements of other countries uncorrupt judicial systems? Consider the situation reversed, and Singapore was trying to interfere with our judicial system, they would be told in no uncertain terms to piss off by the vast majority of the population.
Why should Australia interfere at all |
didnt we all go through this with chappelle?
anywayz, i do understand the whole laws should be respected blah blah etc. however theres the real problem that there are so many laws around the globe that are just fvcking stupid. where do we draw the line between whats acceptable stupidity (banning oral sex in some US states) and unacceptable stupidity (apartheid)?
if we are willing to admit that there are certain occasions when some nations continue to engage in certain practices we feel are immoral or unjust, we should do all we can to pressure that govt into changing them.
yes, drugs are bad mmmkay  but the death sentence? especially since (as ive stated before) these sentences only punish the pawns that are running the drugs, not those cultivating or ultimately profiting from them.
there will always be those stupid or desperate enough to run the gauntlet, and as we can see the laws arent discouraging them.
the australian govt has a duty imo to support its nationals overseas. if the oz govt's pressure could spare his life, then they should apply it.
the idea that every nation in the world is its own sovereign island, with inalienable laws/customs/ideas/govts doesnt sit well with me. its an excuse for inaction when something is in the "too hard basket". |

If its true he was doing it to raise money for his brothers legal bills then i feel even greater sorrow for him. People have been saved with only minutes before death so i hope that happens in this case. |
Not all people in such situations resort to crime. They find other (legal) ways to solve their problems.
Sad sure, but it doesn't excuse the activity.

you're living in an "ideal world" scenario. the reality is that we ARE living in separate sovereigns with separate laws. On a smaller scale the rules of my house differ from those in yours. |

Yes and he wasnt he later found to be innocent?
I remember there being a movie about it :p
I say hang him, he is old enough to know right from wrong
Everyone knows those countries have strict laws, dont feel the least bit sorry for him. |

yeah, and if youre playing loud loud awful house music at 2am on a monday night i have recourse to a higher authority in making you turn it down ;) just coz youre in your castle doesnt make the activities that occur within it inherently
a) acceptable or b) none of my business
off topic: i know it sounds harsh, but liberal democratic, cultural imperialism could be the best thing for subjugated peoples all over the world.
edit: narcism is quite the uncaring tyrant isnt she? :p with your statement then narcism, youd have to argue that you dont feel sorry for anyone convicted of a crime ever, coz they knew what the laws were. |

So you dont want to know how i carried a kidney around for an hour before i put it in the fridge to be collected, or in the first case where blood squirted across the room from a varicose vein :p |

yeah, so if in some country it was illegal (for women) to have sex before marriage, then i wouldnt feel sorry for them either coz they deserved to be stoned to death coz they knew what they were doing was wrong.
what i find laughable is the stance of people on a dance music website in relations to drugs. sure, not all TAs use drugs, but i bet an overwhelming percentage have dabbled.
when your good friend rocks up to your place with your order grasped eagerly in his tight lil hands, where the fvck do you think it came from? its the people you never hear of, the people that van nguyen wanted to be, that have given you your night out. people are so quick to attack those awful dealers/traffickers as long as their hanging doesnt ruin the supply of your particular poison of choice.
very few people are forced to try narcotics, the idea that these runners are hurting innocent users is laughable (see news.com.au quote). tell me what is served by his death.
some guy is gonna get murdered for making a stupid mistake. i pity the fvckers on here that cant seem to understand that.
