I dont have the time to read this whole thread but I do not believe that any drug smuggling charge should be punishable by death.

I feel for this boys family. Yes he committed a crime but the punishment is not fitting. He is most certainly a candidate for rehabilitation

I would like to see some more rapists & kiddy porn criminals hung by their farking balls though :whip:

i mean, you dont see japan brutalising their criminals and they have one of the most consistently low crime rate in the world, if not the lowest.

that's because they're too bloody busy working like crazy and stressing out to even have time to think about committing any crimes. no wonder they have whacked shows like Takeshi's Castle and Iron Chef.

i hope you haven't touched a drug in your life charlee babe coz i can see pkc calling 'hypocrite' very soon otherwise ;)

Of course I haven't but why would I be a hypocrite?
DIDI
The taking of a life is always totally wrong and totally barbaric [hanging is particulary barbaric, it can take up to eight minutes to die] "legal" or not. We should have evolved past this.

I do lose sleep over this because it's a reminder of just how ty this world can be. I am so pissed off with the attitude that if it doesn't effect people personally it doesn't matter. It's not that we should or shoudn't be making a fuss over this guy. We should be making a fuss over all the people who are killed like this.

I find it particularly sickening that Australia's response to this is being influenced by business considerations. Surely we should be responding in a moral way and if capital punishment is immoral in our country surely we should consider it immoral everywhere. I can't respect laws that attempt to make killing moral.

I do care about what he has done but I can't get past the fact that taking another human being's life is WRONG :whip: :whip: :whip:

Like DIDI, i too have been losing sleep over this. No one is forcing anyone to take this topic seriously so i sincerely hope that those who are joking in this thread are merely showing their lack-of maturity on the issue and are not hidding behind the 'i use drugs and glad it aint me or anyone i know' scenario. Grow up.

Its been said before so i'll just reiterate: Drugs are bad. Fine. Killing another human being or raping, bashing, causing serious harm to another or others is also bad. Trafficking drugs are bad. Fine. How taking someone's life can be placed in the same basket as someone who has 'carried drugs on their back' is beyond me. Look at the crime people and forget about the people it may affect down the track.

Example: A man (or woman) threatens to kill someone with a gun strapped to their back. The gun is not visible. Death penalty or not? If you can answer this with death penalty, then perhaps society has been successfully brainwashed by what is thought to be the highest and most effective method of reducing crime.

I tell you what, i really feel for our children and our childrens children. This world does really suck.

And finally, stats are a worthless indicator. Why? Take this example, how can Australia boast that the median salary is $45k per annum when the working community is split between the rich earning millions and the lower class earning below $25k per year? Doesnt make sense does it.
Psygnosis
As many have said, a death penalty for smuggling drugs is absolute nonsense. I wonder what the penalty for murdering someone is, free Mcdonalds?

Since those idiots won't change their system, are they really going to hang him?

Are they living in the prehistoric days? Who the hell hangs anyone anymore.
