Coming back to the thread i must say: GO TO SEE SASHA!

Mayby he is a little to much electro-minded lately, and i miss progressive trance, trance from his old sets. But the man is still amazing. And he does amazing things with ableton sometimes :)
Just listen to the essential mix from Maida Vale. Most of the tracks are ty but he made few amazing things with songs like M83 - Tenn angst or Sia using ableton. I saw him live playing with PvD at Columbiahalle this summer and he played even better then Paul. Really...and i'm saying this while Paul is my nr 1.

And come on...Armin? I loved him in 2003, 2004, he played amazing trance...but now he plays a lot of this fluffy non-sense epic trance (i don't know how to call it) which has no vibe in it. The same sound with no energy, and a lot songs seems to be similar.
I loved almost every ASOT from old years but now i find 1-3 good songs in the set. Other songs are just ok, but i never mind to listem them again.

i dont know the only good stuff I heard from Sasha was Xpander one of my Fav songs and that clip of him and Digweed in benous aries which had a few hot songs on there but I downloaded his sets , I really didnt see nothing Hot , weird Beats and boring you gotta be on yayo to jam two that sorta style for Long Hours

You are right that Beunos aires set was very average. It looked great on the clip but the set is nothing special. The same with Fundacion album.

But how can be the Xpander the only good stuff from Sasha?
Did you hear Wavy Gravy or Magnetic North, Cloud Cuckoo, Scorchio, Motorola? Listen to it on a good sound system...

Sorry for my bad English :p

Ahhhh I am so torn between going to see Armin or going to see the opening night of Sasha's residency :(

On one hand... Armin is one of the top5 DJs in the world according to almost every ranking, and I have been listening to his ASOT sets since forever. In every ASOT he has a bunch of good songs, mainly vocal trance songs, and he always brings the newest material. Many tracks I've first heard on an ASOT broadcast and then only have I heard other DJs play those tracks. And to top it off, I have never seen Armin play live before. When he came here in September I was 17... underage...

On the other hand... someone I met showed me Sasha's opening for Dance Valley: http://www.djsasha.com/dancevalley_sasha.mov . It sounds totally amazing. I have never heard of Sasha before but everyone says only good things about him and the opening night of his residency should be something not to miss.

I'm getting these livesets right now to find out more about Sasha's style:
Sasha Live at Play FM 03-09-05
Sasha Dance Department (radio 538) 11-06-2005
Sasha in Sessions (Maxima FM) 12-25-2005
Sasha Live at DJ Times of the Month 08-12-2005

So which monkey booked these two heavyweights to play in the big apple on the same night? :eyes:

I really don't know I think this might have to end up in a cointoss :)

It all comes down to what type of music you like better. Honestly, from what you wrote, it seems you may have more fun at Armin because you are more familiar with his style of music and what he will be playing that night. On the other hand, yes Sasha is a good dj and I don't see how you would have a bad night. It is nice to take a break from what you are used to going to see, Trance, and expand on other music. So look at it this way, Armin is here this month and probably won't be back until around May. Sasha has a residency so will be in NYC on a monthly or bi-monthly basis so you will most likely have 5 more other chances this year to see him versus seeing Armin 2.

Armin for the win! ;)

I have the Play FM set from September, but where are you finding the other 3? I haven't seen anything about them in the tracklist forum and wouldn't mind getting my hands on them.

This will be the 5th time Armin's been to NYC since Dec. 04 (12/04, 3/05, 6/10/05, 9/30/05, 1/27/05), so he's not here that infrequently, either. I usually expect him every 3 months (same with PvD). I wouldn't be surprised if he's here again in either March or April (around WMC).

Also, can anyone confirm this "residency?" Last year, there was a huge announcement about it, but this year, the only mention of it being a residency is on Crobar's website, and they're still calling it Fundacion. Anyone know how frequently Sasha's actually playing?

I think it is a bi-monthly thing. I heard it here and then I saw it on a flyer but the flyer was for Fur. So I assume it is the same for Crobar, but I could be wrong.

In 2005 Armin was in NYC 3 times. Maybe 4 this year though since he is getting an early start! :D

Sasha's residency at Crobar ended last June....this is just a single visit

heh, just because one club has a residency doesn't mean the other one will have the same..

That's what I figured. I wish Crobar wouldn't confuse on their website by saying that this is his residency. I'd provide the direct link, but they're site's all Flash.
