There's a reason many of your ancestors came here, and are still coming here! Opportunity. Free Market. The chance to be something.

Bash away, you sniveling, jealous little whiney "Europeans"...real Americans could care less...you know why? Because it's 5 o'clock on Friday, we just got a fat paycheck and are jumping in our new sports car and heading out to try and spend all the excess bling!

So, what's goig on in Slough tonight? :haha:

thumbs up dude!

Too add to this, I was thinking last night about what "American Culture" is. I came to the conclusion that our culture is simply "consumer culture," which is pretty much saying that we son't really have a culture, which is really pathetic.

Think about what is under every holiday and event, or anything really that americans do as a "cultural" thing. What's the defining principle that moves it?

Money...

Pretty much, you cannot participate in anything really, unless you pay for something. You cannot enjoy the holiday or event unless you buy something. Everything is defined by money and consumerism.

Americans need to compete will be their downfall. Imagine a day when the cooperate pigs who "run" america have the recourses and abilities to replace all of their workers with comperters and machines that will do work more efficiantly and less costly. They will have to fire everybody, becuase even if one cooperation has morals, their compitition won't, and in order fo them to keep their jobs and their company and not end up working at Wal-mart, they will have to do the same. American Capatalism will always have to keep up with the status quo, and the status quo is always set by the most immoral and greedy companies.

It's disgusting and makes me sick that so many people voted for Bush, who supports a smaller role of government in buisness affairs, allowing companies to do what they want. And the tax cuts, making the rich richer.

Most Americans are ignorant because they are not exposed to different points of view or cultures. They are secluded in their jobs and their cities, thinking what Fox News tells them to think. Their ingnrance is based on their ability to not expose themselves to what really matters.

Living in this country has almost made me sick as the years go by. Americans say they have freedom, but I've experinced more freedoms while living in other countries than I ever did in America. Now, we have "Big Brother" watching our every moves. We are moving backwards just so we can have a false sense of security, and we are sacrafing so much for this .

whacky seattle michael moore liberals like yourself make me sick

if you hate this country so much why dont u get the out and have someone who actually wants to move here to take your place

Well if socialism is free health care for those that need it, decent schools to train our youth, and public works that reduce our dependence on foreign oil and imports than sign me up comrade!

Socialism and social programs aften go far beyond basic infrastructure issues and costs...all of these hand-outs have to come from the tax-payers, and socialism, just like communism, is an insentive killer. It's a dagger at the heart of competativeness whenever you try to make everyone equal...why should anyone try harder than the next guy if we're all going to get basically the same pay?

These two systems attempt to rob from the rich to give to the poor, and while that all sounds very nice and Robinhood-esque on the surface, mature adults realize that at least in this country, you are where you are financially because either your intelligence or your work-ethic (or lack thereof of either) has put you there.

We need less government meddling, red-tape and bloated-budget social programs, and more free market and personal accountability instead. It's what has made this country great and will continue to do so.

dominican republic, its tourist central down there, i do currently reside in canada though. i can readily tell you everyone just wants your (Americans) money, even if they are friendly in nature, money is still what makes everyone much more pleasent.

Wow. So apparently, Americans may be stupid, but the Dominican Republic (and the rest of the world for that matter, according to venomX) has got us beat in the "Greed" department! ;)

I'm speaking to the people in this thread who think Americans are all about money, for one thing....please, keep up!

:haha: @Canadians being "technically Americans".......I know we Americans think that way about them, bad as that is. :haha:

meh, now you're trying to hard to be clever. You know full well we're talking about countries here, not continents. ;)

Yes, but you have this attitude that The US is the only country that is "American."

Oh, yes I've seen quiet a few international sporting events where Mexico was introduced as southernmost Americans, Canada as northern Americans and America as United States of America-ians.

Canada is as much America because it's part of the Anglosphere...whether anyone likes it or not.

Ok I see what you're saying, however tell me that there isn't a huge ammount of people in the States who rise from poor 'hoods and become millionares? and not by playing basketball I mean. If you have the grades you can also go to college for free, and you can't with a large precentage of people who are in college because of that.

And yes I know Sweden colleges and unis are free. they are like that in alot of countries in Europe.

this country has 200 million people, our entertainment industry in the form of television shows, movies music dominate the world's perception of what an American is which is which are NOTHING more than STEREOTYPES which people around the world so quickly and gleefully LOVE to generalize all americans that way

no i'm not apart of the elite, i'm just your average middle-class american. i don't really see what i have to feel guilty of? :conf:

is what i've said so wrong? what is your impression of american citizens?

and i don't think the entertainment industry has anything to do with this discussion because in no way does it give a true representation of america, and not in the sense that you're suggesting, it glorifies it. movies and television mostly give off this idealized impression of what americans are like.

the reality however, at least in my opinion, is that the majority of americans are obese, uneducated, self-fulfilling people. if i'm ashamed of anything it's that people have so little personal shame in this country.
