I actually like his risky mixing too. It sometimes really adds to the flow & if you re-read the pio vs. ishkur thread.. at times i tried to stick up for Pio's side of the issue (as i agreed!).
My post on tiesto.com that was quoted here by NCGroove... is just the points on disc 1 where i really think Tijs didn't put effort into this CD. Also.. I was asked to provide (by exact time) the precise locations of my distaste. Hence the post that got quoted here.
You DO have to look at it technically. But when i pick up an ISOS CD i expect there to be no audible errors. The whole concept is based on the fact that the sun is rising, there is mellow, tranquil period... that is supposed to be captured in the music on the 2 discs.
How can this concept be achieved if Tiesto doesn't pay attention to the mixing?
His ballsy mixing live (different or earlier cue points to other established DJs) and tune selection are the reason why i am still his fan despite all the reasons not to be right now. Sadly, these skills just don't get reflected enough in this release.
I would love to be the "pio" of this thread actually saying i enjoyed the CD. Because the tunes there are damn fine. Really GOOD tunes. Problem is i just can't even get into it at all. I'd rather get the mp3 when they're released and have a go myself.
2 NCGroove - why do the first 4 tunes seem so bad...
I think its clear that in a liveset or in a different dimension perhaps? These tunes would NEVER EVER be put back2back like this. He even had some other tunes that could've been used (sorry no names - but just look at the tracklists from recent events) that he could've used to provide cd 1 with a much better introduction.
A secondary concept seems to have been used whereby all CD 1 had to be vocals (another tune was sent back to the producer and in the end not used simply because it was an instrumental track) - this secondary concept completely kills all sorts of flow on disc 1.
When you consider the Dekay tracks to the end of CD 1 - its not 'that' bad... so why the first 4? Seems like Tiesto wanted to include them but just didn't have anywhere else to put them.. making for 3 very perculiar and out-of-sorts transitions that mess up the whole release.

I am a fan of tiesto's ballsy mixing too. Sometimes it sounds incredible. The mixing can sound better than the actual coming track, lol. But sometimes it just sounds like he just did a turd on the mic. Listen to Essential mix 623, Live at Ibiza, to see an example of this.
Yah... Pio and Ishkur were flaming each other about his style of mixing in one of the threads. Pio kind of owned Ishkur, in my opinion. |

Otherwise..........(and I feel like an ass for saying this BUT) 5 is not that wonderful! I like 4 better, I still stand by my '3 is boring' stance, but I'm just gonna keep 2 pumping since it rocks my face off:happy2: :D (and don't remind me of that lame Touch Me song, that gets skipped!)
Oh, but I like MdK's little sAW quote hahaha almost as funny as "Signs" (not that he did that, but you know...)
All this time sticking up for Tijs, I dunno, kinda came crashing down on my face BUT BUT BUT I think his personal album will ing cream all releases! If I'm wrong well then, I'll just listen to Ferry's L.E.F. extra. |

I just came back from Tiesto's In Search Of Sunrise 5 promo in Singapore. Well, it was not as impressive as I thought although there were some good tracks being played (tracks found in ISOS5). The start wasn't like the classic way ISOS should start. There wasn't any build up like York's The Researchers of Civilisation (ISOS1) or Noa Assembly's Into The Fire (ISOS3). So the start was already disappointing.. The flow wasn't really there throughout the whole performance, but at least i could feel a little of the ISOS sunrise/sunset mood. Out of 10, i would rate a 6. Looks like it'll be hard for Tiesto to turn the tables around and get back to the number one spot. :o

Mixing, meh...I've given up on that for Tiesto.
Second CD is a let down but not surprising, a bit more of Tiesto's ISOS4 (which I think was utter ).
So it's basically you buy the set for the first CD. It won't be a memorable mix but at least Tiesto is slightly getting back to what made me fall in love with his earlier mixes...

What? This is the most bizarre observation I've seen yet. Either you don't know what funk sounds like, or you're just not paying attention. Either way, you really should think twice before ever reviewing a CD again.
I'm pre-ordering ISOS5:LA at Amazon.com and it's on sale for a good price. Sweet. =) |

yeah,
i think ur right, it's starting to grow on me... but the mixing is too quick. needs to wait a bit.
dunno what it is, but something about it still annoys me.
