i listen to my music loud as well...i just don't force others to.
just make sure you're not sitting next to someone on the subway who isn't as passive as the lady with the kids. |

The only person's behaviour you can control is your own. and if you are the one with the music, you have to adapt to the fact that people are going to ask you stupid questions sometimes.
I just don't see why people would REFUSE to turn it down, just because they don't HAVE TO. If it doesn't make a big difference to you, why not just do it?
People are so pretentious in this city. everyone fighting for their "rights." makes for a real cold place to live when people are only thinking of their one and only... |

Why shouldn't you, though?
this attitude of me, myself and I makes me want to leave toronto. it's ridiculous how people exist in their own bubble, and everyone else. |
Dont you think this woman has her own bubble going on? The "life should be perfect in every single way i see fit" bubble?
Basically shes saying " you, im here so turn your music off"
Where does this line of thinking end? Is she going to then tell me to quit wearing heavy cologne and offer me a breath mint?
Seriously, some people need to sort thier priorities out. |

Jay, everyone has their own bubble. When you come out in public, you are forced to share your bubble with others. The deal with city life is that there is much more of a mixed group of lifestyles.
Rather than having to put up with everyone's annoyances all the time, can we just flip that around and take an extra step to NOT annoy someone else? How about you reprimand your kids for acting like annoying little s, and I'll turn my music down.
And maybe that will keep on rolling? If not, maybe we can just chalk it up as being a part of the solution, rather than the problem. But maybe we'll get lucky abd avoid bitterness that leads to guns being sprayed in the shopping district, because this silly act of being kind, generous, and thoughtful actually caught on, instead of a contagious epidemic of persecution? |

true. we live in a society where we should be respecting others around us. maybe if we all thought that way and acted that way, you (jay) wouldn't find canadians to be so mean..and canadian women to be so stuck-up
now if the lady was incredibly rude in asking/telling, then i'd ignore her, but then i'm spiteful |

i find it stuck up for someone to be asking that in the first place. The polite thing to do would be to tolerate other people's being instead of taking issue with every little thing that they are doing.
If im genuinely being a rude biligerent person then tell me off, but you know what? Ive heard headphones in public many times and VERY RARELY can i even distinguish what song is playing. If its that low how can it be issue enough to bother you into telling that person to turn it down?
Yeah ok if the dude was blaring some huge ass boom box id agree, but headphones?
Get a life
tolerence is not a canadian trait as much as we like to fool ourselves into believing otherwise. |

| It's more "stuck up" to disregard the comfort of others. And don't say I've signed that away by leaving the confines of my privacy, because that's bull. The only thing I'm doing is relying on others to be considerate, and it's sad that people are justifying a stance for the opposite. |
