I dont know if anyone is following the protests, or the bill, but many students have been walking out of class plus a large demonstration with 500,000 people in L.A., Other large demonstrations throughout major cities in the U.S. Ive seen a topic on the ban for smoking, but nothing on the immigration issue....
What do you feel about the anti-illegal immigration movement, and do you think that there should be amnisty for immigrants? |

I think if they're going to pass something down like that, they should put a grandfather clause in for those already there.
You can't fight the people already within your borders.
Now trying to determine who is within your borders is another problem all together... |

| My thought is that it's a sad state of affairs that illegal immigrants are more apt to rally and protest when the US government is ing up than American citizens are. |

Explain how? Too start off with illegal immigrants dont even have any rights in this country, they shouldnt even be here, so why should they rally? How come the INS wasnt on the rallies? :p |

Err even if they are illegal immigrants as far as I know they have rights within the United States. You cant just run over illegal immigrants with your car, or beat them up in the street.
That being said, Canada is cracking down on illegel imigrants, I saw that a few hundred got sent home last week. I noticed they were crying and one guy even said "Shame on you Canada and your stupid laws". Yessss ok there buddy, think you just lost a lot of your credibility there. |

Your right, hey have a right to live and such, basic human rights..but that aplies for any country in this world. Somebody needs to do something about this. I mean we hear it over and over, but nothing gets done. More danger will come from our borders, especially the Mexican one if we do not do anything about it. |

A tactical release by the Bush administration to counter the recent demonstrations? A horrible example of our inability to control our borders?
Here is a cnn article
Basically, two teams of investigators were able to smuggle in enough radioactive material to make a dirty bomb. One was via Canada and one was via Mexico. I thought this might be a good time to open the dialogue on worker plan programs, border policies, and border security in light of the hundreds of thousands of demonstrators and Bush's pitched policy. |

| Oh c'mon if the Chinese can build a wall 4000 miles long without technology and only their bare hands I'm sure a couple hundred miles of wall won't be that hard to build across the entire US-Mexican border right? I mean given our tremendous resources and technology I don't see the problem. My only question is what the hell is our government waiting for!?!? |

They're waiting for Americans to work as cheaply as Mexicans.
Illegal immigrants work into the Republican mold twice. First as cheap labor, which creates larger profits for big business. Second, as voters, because Republicans can gain a lot from the Catholic/Christian vote that these people posess.
It's sad, but too many of these immigrants (not just Mexicans, but Philipinos, Irish etc.), because of their faiths, agree with the Republicans, even though the Republicans don't work in their economic favor. |
