It's easy to yell 'it sucks' or 'it rules' but it'd be nice to read WHY - that would show as well that you know what you're talking about. Heard this discussion over and over - boring unless you come up with some solid points.

Also - did Tiesto use Ableton on ISOS5? Supposedly he did (I should have asked him). Why - if he didn't like using it?

And the mixing - that's a hot topic - is it as bad on ISOS5 as many say it is? See - THAT's stuff that interests me.

Well I appreciate the interview, I was actually going to edit my post to add that, you asked some good questions, better than the standard "whats next for you" "whats your favorite track" bs.

But what he said about ableton is just stupid. I mean really. "It isnt tight" yeah maybe if you suck at warping tracks, Fundacion was mixed on Ableton and its pretty ing tight.

I also take offense to this:

T: Well, I know where I stand myself. But sometimes you just read stuff, and it's total bull. And then, you look at what kind of people write it. You know, somebody who's a dedicated fan of, say, Sasha. Of course he hates Tiesto! It's not his music, right. It's like me talking about, uh, Dolly Parton. (laughs) It doesn't make any sense. On the internet, you have to look at who writes it and for what reasons.

His mixing has nothing to do with different music styles, his mixing is just painfully sub-par for someone like him whose been djing for so long. You think he would have figured it out by now. Hes even played alot of the same tracks as Sasha now that hes going a little more "housey trance" (whatever the that means)...like Kosmas Epsilon - Innocent Thoughts.

Tiesto seems to always have some new excuse for his crappy mixing skills, whether it be that he is "forced" to use CDJs now, to ableton having a ty midi clock...and frankly, thats whats total bull.

It's not tight, it's boring as . Your Sasha worship/Tiesto hate is really getting ridiculous. Pretty soon you'll turn out to be a parody of yourself.

Sasha with ableton = who cares

He could have never done this mashup live on CDJ/vinyl:

5. Kosmas Epsilon – Innocent Thoughts (Stel Remix)
6. Funk D’Void – All That Matters
7. Closer Musik – One, Two, Three (Ewan Pearson Remix)
8. Phonique – 99 & A Half featuring Alexander East (I:Cube Remix)

Which I consider to be art.

But this isnt about Sasha, its about Tiesto dissing Ableton live for no good reason.

B: Do you read up on things regularly?

T: Well, not regularly, but I read sometimes. I like to read up on stuff like that because it's very interesting. Because they say 'the mix from track 1 to track 2' is horrible. And I'm listening to it, and I'm like, 'Well, yeah, it's maybe on the edge. But that's my way of mixing. I always mix on the edge, you know?

R: That's another big, thing: a lot of people say that you're a risky mixer. You take a lot of risks in your mixes, rather than making it smooth. Do you see yourself as a risky mixer?

T: Yeah, I see myself as a risky mixer because I think if you mix very clean, that's great for like 3% of the audience, but the other 97% who don't have a clue about mixing tracks, they want to hear the mix. So, I like them to hear the mix, so they know there's a new track coming in.

R: Do you do that for yourself as well? Because staying on the edge is more exciting than doing the same, smooth mix?

T: Yeah, I like to mix like that. And I make mistakes, you know... every night. Every night I play I make, like, three or four, five mistakes.

making mistakes so people can know when the track is changing :wtf:

oh and he supposedly reads TA :nervous:

TA is that 3% of the audience that cares about the mixing.

Very nice interview.

Finally one where i actually enjoy the questions and goes more in depth than the usual bs fan questions.

As for his mixing some of you retards need to relize he has been mixing abrupt since he started. This is not a new thing for tiesto. Thats his style. Sometimes it sounds like garbage and sometimes it sounds so damn cool (Dutch dimension 2002)

oh wait wait wait. hold on here! timeout!

Did he just say that he likes to make crappy transitions so the audience can hear when a new tracks comes in? And he even calls it "mixing on the edge". What a cool guy. He takes DJing to another level. Paul van Dyk should give back his nr #1 DJ Mag position to Tiesto. He is the righteous winner.

:wtf:

Actually he did. It was with Portishead - Roads + Dr. Kucho - ID + ID + ID with ableton last year. Sorry I don't know the names of those tracks.

Isn't the "differing music styles" part what made him such a highly regarded dj today? This contreversy surrounding his mixing style is nothing new. It has been talked about ever since the late 90's and to make a long story short it's the risks that he takes why people love him so much. I live for more days when dj's weren't afraid to push the bar.

This interview also made me realize a lot of things one of which is that he's very open minded. For example his experimenting with ableton, complete transition to cd decks, and the taking advantage of the house scene. For me this is a sign of progess by Tiesto and his refusal to stay formulaic.

As far as the mixing goes, ty or not, he has always delivered in the music sense.
The 3am Junkie
exactly he should know better since he DOES read TA. It's really that 3% that is there for the music and not everything else.
