Haha. Well its no big loss judging by what most of TA thinks.

I like how people here think "exciting mixing" = ing up

Exciting mixing is when you try crazy and make it sound clean. But I guess thats just me.

But back on topic to this thread. I love everything Tiesto has ever done except for the mixing thing. He has always played amazing trance, stuff that would just allow me to close my eyes and relax and think I were somewhere else. He definitely does his digging for tracks that not a lot of other trance dj's play. But I could never really get into the style of his mixing. I don't like the abrupt transitions. Another reason why I can't listen to a PVD set for too long. I love the long, smooth transitions and think that is how trance should be mixed.

BUT this has obviously worked for Tiesto for yeeeeeeeeeears and he has created an enormous fan base off of his style so I would never wish him to change it. It has worked for him and I commend him for it. All in all... awesome interview. And damnit I have yet to see Tiesto live!!!!!

:p

Who's Tiesto?

yeah edgy mixing is all fine and its all cool in livesets. But not on a studio album compilation like ISOS 5 Tijs :whip:

this aside, a very good interview i have to say. Nice read ;)

Yeah, good interview. My only problem is Tiesto comes out looking like one of those fat kids in elementary school whom everyone said couldn't do a push up and he'd just say, "yeah I can! I just don't wanna!". "I can mix well, I just don't wanna!"

I may have the impression of a big fan, but if i don't agree with something he does i'm not afraid to speak my mind.

I'm no fanboy.

Great interview IMO, the only thing is that it looks like he is making excuses. It can be possible that wasnt the actual intention of him, but on paper it looks like that.

About his mixing, I love his own style mixing for over years. He tries to break the boundaries, indeed play on the edge. And If then a beat not goes 100% on top of eachother during a set in front of 1000 people it isn't a problem. But on ISOS5 there are just somme akward non nicely flowing transistions, which he does'nt have in his live sets in a club. Tiesto is still a master in track selection, tracktiming during a set, so that is just feel right, that it "fits". I don't have that feeling with other DJ's (some can but then rarely). And I don't have that feeling during listening to ISOS5, only at some parts.

And about the Ableton story, Involver is one of the greatest CD's the last years but Sasha produced that at home or in the studio. That isn't a live thing so you can't compare that with a Live performance. Maybe musical wise Ableton is a great new technology but Party wise it's a whole different thing IMO.

Since when did 'dodgy' become 'edgy'?

You can't polish a turd.

But you can dress it up with clogs on, and call it "fresh" :D

ISOS5 isnt a live performance either, its also a studio mix. So the comparison between isos5 & involver just in terms of mixing isnt that far fetched imo.
