ya but you see, in the interview he says he's there for the people who don't know about the music.

That doesn't really make any sense. Who would honestly rather please a very small minority just to be "cool" or "respected" than appeal to the masses?
The 3am Junkie
i think we're arguing over something we both agree on :toothless .

you don't have to be to appeal to the masses, althought most of the times it works that way. Apparently, it works for Tiesto.

...and he's because of what? The 3% decided so?

Would there be such a change of opinion from the masses if he just seemingly mixed? My guess is he would please both parties anyway.

yes, the 3% that actually have a clue.

I find it amazing that people look for any reason to put a person down for their own personal scorn. Seriously, put that aside for one minute and look at him in an objective sense. It's like no matter what Tiesto ever does you guys will always argue over technicalities rather than focusing on the big picture.

Well you're certainly a good spokesman for that 3% then :stongue:

Tiësto's mixing has always been the same. Back in the day nobody cared, but the first time he hit #1 it was suddenly cool to hate him... so the very same people who loved him the year before for his controversial mixing now hated him for the very same reason.

doesn't sell itself. Stop living in a dreamworld.

T: Yeah, I see myself as a risky mixer because I think if you mix very clean, that's great for like 3% of the audience, but the other 97% who don't have a clue about mixing tracks, they want to hear the mix. So, I like them to hear the mix, so they know there's a new track coming in.

At least he knows this and aknowledges it honestly. IMO sometimes his risky mixes are AWESOME and work really well and sometimes he misses the mark but when he takes risks and succeeds he really can excite a crowd. Then again... this reply kinda sounds like a cop-out for shotty mixing.

T: Yeah, I like to mix like that. And I make mistakes, you know... every night. Every night I play I make, like, three or four, five mistakes.

I like to mix like that... So he *likes* to makes three to four mistakes a night? Hehe. I think at this level of his career or anyones, that they DON'T make three to four mistakes EACH night. That doesn't sound PROFESSIONAL to me. Granted, I can understand DJ's of any level making a couple of mistakes, mis-phrasing and such but three to four consistently, go back to DJ school eh?

Overall I really like the interview. I love Tiesto and always will. He gets a lot of negativity on this site but he still can throw down a good mix and hit track selection is still one of the best in his genre. But of course it's always a matter of opinion.

Bingo! That's similar to the point I made in my earlier post.

Keep reading, he makes mention of comments just like yours:
quote:

R: When you play six hours I think three or four mistakes are allowed.

T: [But] on those communities[i.e. forums like these], if you make three, four, five mistakes, you're the worst mixer on earth.

R: But they've never done it themselves.

T: Yeah, well I remember this sentence: "Criticism only hurts when it's true." And that's why I can read whatever they write. It doesn't effect me at all. I know what I want.

Good interview. I personally havent listened to a set by Tiesto since 2004 so I have no clue what's going on but I would definately see him live if I got the chance.
