I would like to get suggestions from you.

Don't tell me to bring PVD or invest 1M$ in the club for a exemple please.

Find the guys who are sitting at home and have skill that should be playing in Afterhours. It can't hurt to give these guys a chance ? You would be suprised of the talent some people have.

I know, you don't have to tell me. Trance is OVERKILL in Toronto. I know you can't compare the 2 cities at all. I don't think that we have as many afterhours in Toronto either. Although if I am correct a few of them are run by Charles anyhow.

I still believe that Aria is one of the biggest known clubs out there as far as Mtl goes. When ppl think of Mtl afterhours they think of Aria and Stereo, imo.

As for the sponsors and the alcohol, yes they probably play a huge part for you. We don't have the sponsors but we can serve booze until 2am. What is the deal with the laws there on why you guys can't serve in afterhours anyhow? I never really understood that. :wtf:

Either way, biggy I may say things online but I will still support Aria regardless cuz it is like home for me when I come to Mtl. And I know others still support you as well and I think we would be more than happy to throw some ideas your way to help out. :)

No international dj's...i can adapt to that.
A dancefloor with 15 people i cannot.

Maybe aggressively market school campuses, or other areas in your demographic that are likely to come to an event on a semi regular basis.
How about doing cross promotions with certain alcohol clubs in town.
(Ie, when they do a night with a big headeliner, advertise as the official afterparty or something to get the people from said club)
Many of the people i knew from aria's beginnings wont go there ever again barring a sahsa or ect, so find a new generation of aria heads.
I might bitch more than anyone else on here, but you have to admit biggy its really sad to see the state of things considering how they once were.No one wants to see the room empty.

Thats probably being done now but only to a certain extent(mtlnights, ravemontreal etc. Also start having themes for the night would help so people know what to expect(Allready started doing that a bit I noticed. For the rest well local hero residents are good, people like to look forward to hearing there favorite local Dj's spin. Not that the locals arnt good now but they are just not doing anything special in the scene here. Guarenteed if these things could change then word of mouth would be succesfull. Right now word of mouth about Aria isnt anywhere near good.

Steve internet promotion is a good factor for promotion but it doesn't play a big part of people's decision on going out (yet).
So you can't rely on that as basis to your promotion:p

Biggy,

First of all thank you for taking the time to respond to this thread. Now, I understand the situation with the international DJ's and I completely agree that their 25k request is flat out ridiculous. Unless you're Guvernment where you can pack them in like sardines, 25k for a few hours of music is ridiculous.

I'm going to say this and I may get flamed for it but I think it's time ARIA closes their doors as an afterhours and applies for an alcohol license. You said it yourself the afterhour concept is dying in Montreal and I think ARIA turning into a 10-3 club with alocohol and maybe a little change of decor will help it dearly.

When I say change of decor I don't mean investing 100k+ into the house room. What I mean is maybe adding a neon sign in front, adding new colors to the walls and maybe even some hanging fabric will add a bit of life to the place. ARIA is my underground dance haven yes, but a new market means a new club. Imagine how big the place can be if you renovate and bring out the whole city to see what you've done with the place. ARIA is a household name and tell me honestly that people wouldn't be interested in at least checking the newly renovated ARIA at least once. Clear some couches, make room for some bars and never look back.

A great club moves in eras. I can admit that I was unfortunately never there for the Armin/Tiesto/PVD days. What I can say, however, is that I've seen ARIA alive when Ferry plays. I've seen Marcus Schultz smile behind the decks. I've seen Preach blow away a dancefloor on F1 weekend. When ARIA is thriving and busy like last Friday it's truly the best afterhours in Montreal.

It's time to shift onto that new era.

Biggy, either way man, I'll be at ARIA for Ferry and I know you'll be in the booth pumping up the crowd. Admit that when you're in the booth with Ferry and he's pumping up the crowd and when the dancefloor is moving with beautiful girls and "ferry = #1" posters you don't feel INCREDIBLE. That's what I wanna see at ARIA. I just want to see it prosper and beat out the other afters that are currently ahead.

I think it starts with a paintjob and a neon sign in front...

Maybe Sven Vath in the fall too. If you can pry him away from Europe that is. :P
Enjoy
Go back to 1234! :whip:

Nah but seriously 10-3 is bollocks, where would one go after 3? Pay again for Stereo/Circus?

I have to disagree with u 100% Marcus. What you are suggesting should be left for a last minute resort-if all else fails type of thing.

For me and I know for sure for some others, if Aria stops being an afterhour it will stop being Aria....

Look at Myst. I ing hate that place but look at the names they're bringing in. Lawler, Sanchez, Zabiela... it's already beaten ARIA's bookings.

Just my 2 cents people. Biggy himself said the afterhour concept is dying. Make the hiphop room into a bar and seperate it from the building ala Stereobar. ARIA bar before hand with a liquor license and ARIA house room from 3 on. I dunno guys, it's just my opinion. :X
Dj Nacht
Marcus the idea is a good idea but it has its flaws. You gotta consider the fact that probably more then 90% of people attending afterhours are intoxicated on a substance that usually isnt alcohol. Do you really think the majority of these people are gonna just transfer over to alcohol no problem? Raves/Afterhours have been associated with drugs ever since the beginning. Trying to change Aria into something completely different is possible but it might change way more then you wanted.

Now thats a good idea that I really respect. Stereo and Stereo Bar is a perfect example and just look at how succesfull they are right now.

agreed!

Aria may need a change but a change in that direction.
Maybe just not saying open as late as they do. Run from Midnight until 7am maybe.. I dunno, but it is still an afterhours in that case! :)
Enjoy
Yeah coming to Aria before 2AM would be totally awesome.
