July 2006 @ Aria after-hours (pg. 8)
View this Thread in Original format
Biggy
Marcus, Stereo had their alcohol liscence before the afterhours law passed. Now it's impossible to have both liscence in the same building, even if it's a different address.

Also, this is impossible or almost impossible to get a alcohol liscence at Aria because we are at less than 25 meters from a other alcohol club.

At least, keep going on with the suggestions and we will try to do our best for you guys.

Thank you
Enjoy
It would be REALLY wicked if the "room" with the couches was open before 2AM (and the main room somehow blocked). And someone would be spinning there some chill/lounge music. :wtf:
Enjoy
And get a VJ please. Pretty please. :gsmile:

Oh oh .. and install a second camera so both ticket booths would be open. It's super long waiting in the lineup sometimes (cuz of the people in the "vip lineup"). And standing next to the hip hop clientele.. :o

Aria used to have a kick ass VJ back in the day. Forget about a VJ for now atleast untill the club starts makin money again. Theres nothing anyone here can say to save Aria cause all these suggestions Biggy has probably heard millions of times. Anyways ill keep saying it again and again... NOTHING will change untill the Local DJ's change. Sorry to say this but all the residents are not serious enough. Sure they have talent but do you ever see any productions coming from residents in Montreal??? I don't blame em... its a big decision to say ok Fuk it im devoting my life to Dj'ing. Untill a local gets that idea into his head things will continue to stay the same. Thats my opinion though and im not saying you have to believe me.

ok, I hope I can ask this question without sounding horrible here...

but in all honesty, how long on average does an afterhours club usually last in the scene to begin with? Is it just a few years before it is the "out with the old, in with the new" that comes into place. I know System Soundbar in TO was open for 6 yrs I think before they closed their doors down and that was ty cuz I loved that club. But this is the reason why I ask my question.

you clearly need to start booking indie rock bands and loungey restraunt music like jojo flores.
Seriously how many afterhours in montreal play indie rock.?
and how many ppl have insomnia and would like to listen to the relaxing sounds of jojo flores to help them sleep? ALOT.
its all about differentiating yourself from the competition.
all-nite-freak
-find a club in another city and hold VS resident nights

-jump on North American(less travel and per diem than euros) producers/dj's who havent blown up yet(but will)
build a relationship that allows the dj's to continue playing at a reduced cost even when they strike it big.(people like austin leeds...im telling you guys, jump on him before he hits it big)

-allow other promotional companies to throw events at aria....(like stereo does with blended and whatnot)You make the money for the venue and the promoters organizers deal with putting the people there.

-For bigger nights do things like the flag girls for f1.I personally dont give a about this kinda stuff, but it is a fact that people like smoke and mirrors and eat up that kind of stuff.

The violence nonsense scared alot of people away.Show these people there is nothing wrong and give an amount of free passes every week.Sure they dont pay to get in that time, but if the club is worth it they will come back.If you can get people who never intended to go to aria in just once and 30% come back, already you win.(Circus did this in the beginning, they book no one either, and they are kicking your ass at the moment)

with all the room aria has, im sure you could rent space for show production similar to what happens at circus.Aria can make money as more than an afterhours when it isnt being used.

Dj Nacht is right....the aspect of dj'ing is moving into a more producer oriented way.Anyone with a decent pc can make music these days.Having residents who release tracks and further their careers only helps your club more.(Look at when Preach was there as compared to now)So far only Marco and Miguel Gracca produce to my knowledge.
(ahem creator and friends....cubase , reason ...ect ect time):p
