Do you really think that Rooney who rushed to become fit for this tournament, would deliberately stamp on a player 5 feet from the referee in the q/final of the world cup? dont be a pleb.

Yip because he is that stupid |

I'm sorry but what a pile of utter dog this statement is. We maybe didnt play that well for some of the world cup but the players we have make us a very powerful team. Also anyone not blind would realise we outplayed Portugal for an hour with only 10 men. We also qualified easily. Sven is mostly to blame with his tactics but we are hardly and a comment like that is just something i would expect from a bitter scotsman with their bunch of nothing achieving never qualifying sporting no-marks. |
First time u have played well in the tournament then - I am not Scottish by the way, I am from Northern Ireland - maybe u remember we beat ur sorry lot in Belfast - wots ur excuse for that defeat - u must have one cause u are such a good side, it couldnt possibly b because some team was BETTER than you on the day |

Owen Hargreaves was the only player who showed guts and determination, and it was interesting that his mentality showed up the rest of the teams'. |
i'd disagree with that; rooney showed plenty of it (a little too much) and lennon was a joy to watch because of it. the back four all put up a pretty convincing display (barring moments in the sweden game) and ashley cole in particular made a few impressive forward runs
the problem was in the midfield.. beckham, gerrard, lampard & joe cole. joe cole was ing awesome in some of the pre-tournament friendlies but he barely contributed anything when it mattered (apart from that one fluke of a strike), was one of the big let-down's for me. wasn't particularly impressed by carragher or carrick either
i think rooney with his strength & determination COULD have made a big difference but it all depended on gerrard/lampard getting up there & giving him the assistance, which just wasn't happening most of the time. he had to cope by himself and flapped & failed as a result.. ultimately leading to his downfall |

I didnt say u were scottish but i think ur crappy team and supporters are in the same category. Yes u were better on the day but we were better on the day we beat u 4-0. Erikson made a total hash of the tactics as usual on the day we lost. Stop talking about how crap England are and start worrying about the 50 years it'll take ur sorry bunch of crap to qualify for a tournament. |

Why do England never do well on penalties? Well just look at every other team we've taken them against. Other players walk up with such confidence, England players just dread it and crumble under the pressure. |
You should try a penalty shootout against our side.. First one to score wins.
Hint: bring sleeping bags. |

Are you serious? I thought joe cole was the only player who looked dangerous going forward for the whole tournament - except maybe for Lennon at times.. he was the only player running at defenders, trying to bring something creative to the team.. |

yeah, this was my view before the tournament started. i was genuinely excited about him, as that flair he had when running with the ball & taking on defenders was pretty special, not normally something you see in an english squad. but to me he just didn't live up to his potential when it mattered.. either the players just weren't passing to him as much, or he couldn't make the best use of the forwards.. but he just seemed to be comparitely absent most of the time; i think he even got subbed off twice?
also kudos to coup (or whoever it was) for reopening the thread, thought the reason for closing it was pretty pathetic! |

Wheres the excuse i said we were rubbish but theres always reasons. Yes u beat us but did u qualify no and thats what really matters. U can savour ur one nil win if it really makes u feel better about it. Of course u wont need to since u dont care apparently even though u feel the need to point it out anyway. |

1-0 :D:D
Anyway, with such a small nation, really good Northern Ireland teams come in cycles, our last good team was 82-86, but it went downhill from there, but I'd say we're on the up now.
Anyway, the fact is that it was nothing to do with Ronaldo that you lost, it was down to the fact that you can't hit penalties. Also that Sven is a complete tosser who is more concerned with warming his sausage up than managing the team.
Beckham and lampard should have been dropped to make way for Lennon and Hargreaves, play Rooney up with Crouch. He should have brought Bent or Defoe at least. |

voting closes today so probably no use...but oh well.
----
Please vote and forward on to the WHOLE WORLD!!!!!!
The campaign continues!!
There is a very real danger that Cristiano Ronaldo will be voted the fans'
best young player at the World Cup despite his pouting, diving, gayboy
antics designed mainly to get himself a lucrative transfer to
Real Madrid and thus avoid the good kicking he deserves from Wayne Rooney
at Manchester United training.
He is currently 1st in the FIFA voting in front of Luis Valencia of
Ecuador. Please can everyone go to
http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en...a/eligible.html
and do the decent thing by voting for Valencia. It doesn't matter who you
support or if you haven't seen them play, just stop Ronaldo.
You know it makes sense
