that sounds like instant replay to me.:rolleyes: I thought FIFA were against it.
I think a lot of the Italian players were shocked that Zidane did that and felt sorry for him. Did you see the looks on their faces? It would be like Pele playing his last game for Brazil and kicking the keeper in the face.:eek: I'm still stunned but he's only human and paid the price. |

sad, sad day for zizou, france and the world of football. where to start? I guess from the beggining. both teams were equally great in the first half. Id say italy had the edge as france played a more defensive game saving their energy for the second half and if need-be overtime (which of course there was). italy's corners were all equally dangerous while zizou's penalty made me believe that he would infact take france to glory. not so.
second half- france was playing OVERWHELMINGLY better than italy. ball possesion, chances, italy had nothing on them. it was only a matter of time before all those chances turned into a goal and the header from zidane only made thing seem more optomistic. then out of ing nowhere, in a fit of rage zidane singlehandedly taints his career, loses the cup for france and disgraces himself in the final game of his professional life. I dont know what that italian player said to him but it mustve struck a nerve to the point where he just snapped. Ive never seen him so un-professional. he lost his cool, his flare. a sad, sad sight.
fast forward to france with one man down. italy still couldnt touch them. france was clearly the better team. italy couldnt get the ball past midfield and france was dominating (albiet without less chances due to zizou's absence) the match. but of course without their captain they just couldnt pull of a goal.
penalty kicks- barthez did his best. I dont blame him. without zizou, the man that never misses a penalty, they were bound to lose. the morale was down, the odds were against them. italy was clearly the favourite here. and so it eneded...on a sad note. all the work, and all the effort, the tactics, the beautiful football, a mans legacy...all down the toilet because of a single mistake.
I just want to know WHAT WAS IT THAT BASTARD SAID TO HIM??? if only we could read lips, we'd know. but oh well.. so a french football generation ends. Zizou is still one of the best there ever was and ever will be but he shouldnt have went out like this...no one should go out like this.

| Looks like some kind of racist comment. Typical Italians...they talk big but run away or hit the pitch when it comes time to fight (their fans do the same). But Zizou ed it up big time and I honestly believe that had he taken the first or last French PK, France would have won. They deserved to win this WC, but the best team does not always win. |

Italy was the better team in the first half but France clearly dominated the second, it's a shame Zidane went out that way, nothing the Italian said could have warranted a headbut but that doesn't make the Italian any less culpable. It's such a shame to see such poor sports win the cup :(

where was the video ref when Italy dived against Australia in the last few seconds of the game? They should have been knocked out weeks ago :/ |

in the entirety of the WC, Italy played better than France who tied like two games if i remember correctly? Italy deserved the cup out of these two. Not tom ention Italy's win against Germany was a beauty - best game of the WC.
and please get over that dive against australia, it's not like they would've won anyways, be happy you even got to the WC. |

1) italy didnt desrve to win against australia.
2) france played better for most of the match.
remember, you won on penalities. if anything they were matched. |

actually there should have been a second penalty. Italy had absolutely nothing going in the 2nd half or AET. They were waiting for the shootout and it certainly felt like France were going to score until Zidane turned into a charging rhinocerous. |

France wasn't able to penetrate Italian defense. France could've dominated the second half in terms of ball possesion but that dosen't mean if you don't score a goal, so i fail to see how that makes them the better team.
EDIT: Bottom line, Italy won the Cup fair and square, so i don't see whats with all the bull and whining. |

The better team is the one who won.
Italy:
Materazzi was the author of an amazing header that tied the game.
They were able to keep their defense strong, even though they werent dominating ball possesion, they didn't let france take advantage.
Buffon stopped Zidane's header that would've won the game for France. Buffon > Zidane
Italy didn't miss any PK in the shootout.
France:
Only goal was a undeserved PK that hit the post, luckily for them it went in.
Zidane acted like an idiot and reacted violently to a comment he could've shrugged off if he acted like a pro.
Trezeguet missed a PK in the shootout. Cost France the cup. |

Italy played better in main time. Only they scored. France scored on PK only. In extra time Italy was passive because they were tired and Lippi decided to hold defence till the end. As you could see in france extratime played most negros, as they're physically stronger than whites. So it's all about tactics! About match Italy-Australia: Italy played terriblly, but they were disapointed by giving red card for nothing from the begining, that match had many mistakes from referee.
I rooted for Brazil & Italy from the begining, so one of my favorites have won. I'm so happy!!!
Shame to Zidan! What the he was thinking?
Italy have won for true. This year they are the best. Best defender Cannavaro, best forward Toni, very good goalkeeper Buffon (saved excellent shot from Zidan), plus many other great players. What a team! Enjoyed that WC.
In 94 Germany had won in Italy, now Italy has won in Germany!
And all statictic is . One team can have 100 shots on target and lose to team with 5 shots on target! It's not a tennis, where statistics in 95% on winers side |
