We (Portugal) stayed for 16 years without scoring one (1986 -> 2002), would you say every single player we had in those years, like Rui Costa for example, were ? This is just a overhyped stat devoid of any real meaning.

No such thing as overhyped or irelevent stat in the WC - it's stats and performence that seperate teams like Brazil with 5 WC's under their belt and Portugal with 0. (although I hope you guys upset germany)

the bottom line is, consistent performence --> achievements --> stats --> and stats speak for themselves.

edit - I will give you one thing paranoik0, for his age it's impressive no doubt. The argument is, should he be considered as one of the very best players ever to live; and imo looking at his OVERALL career, no.

anyhow,...I need to get some stuff ready as I am leaving for cuba.I'll be watching the finals there.

take care kids, I want to see massive spam when I return about why 'team x beat team y' in the finals, and how team y's player is a diver...and team x cheated their way to a win. :wtf:

but this is all useless since not scoring a goal in one tournament invalidates all other tournaments :(

a stat that might be more relevant to you:

FIFA World Cup 2006:
code:
Player Age Goals ------------------------------- Z. Zidane 34 2 Ronaldinho 26 0

How on earth can this guy discuss that Zidane isn't one of the best players ever? my God have you followed him since he started playing football... Please explain me in numbers, detailed numbers how he can NOT be considered one of the best players in football history.

How many trophies and awards does he have to earn to be considered!!!

Objectively a WC champion has to earn his title and Italy simply earns it more than france. They've given up their catenaccio play but still their defence remains the strongest element, sublime how italians made an art of out defending -sry intermilan- but cannavaro is amazing, every time at the right place with the right actions.

As for france, they didnt deserve to win against spain and defended something like 70% of the games against brazil and portugal. They deserved nothing more than getting knocked in the first round out as four years ago.

Ans Zidane is just another puto.

Didn't deserve to win against Spain? What? Espana was crap and were lucky to even get that penalty. France dominated them in the second half. And they were the better team against Brazil too, despite doing a lot of defending. Who DOESN'T defend a lot against Brazil? How many chances did Brazil really have? France looked better against them than they did today against Portugal.

I can't believe the lack of respect for Zidane around here. He's won pretty much everything you can win in football and played a massive part in all of it and he's a "puto".

that's how players/supporters of real madrid are called :stongue:
The_G0dfather
A i respected Zidane untill he went to Madrid and still do in a way as long as he aint wearing a puto shirt...

And say all you want, France never really seemed any good or should i say stunning, since that's what i'm looking for this WC, stunningness. To be honest, Italy produced some of the best football -considering all games together- of this WC, I mentioned them as one of the outsiders this WC, but didnt imagine they(ld playlike this, dominating Germany!

and just to sum it up:

france group stage = crap
vs spain : no domination at all, either side could've won, spain didnt produce their best football as they did in the groupstage
vs brazil : "lucky" goal and defending
vs portugal : ditto, crap performance

if it werent for Zidane i'ld be really ashamed for you guys

Nothing against the french in general, love the country but i hate they way teams always want to defende that single goal, sucks as a spectator to be watching a game like that.

There's been way to many games like that this WC, too many tactics, too little stars on the pitch.

Henry's goal was lucky against Brazil?

Totti's winner against Australia was nothing short of a gift from Sepp Blatter himself. Italy had one great game against Germany but they didn't look brilliant nor dominating vs. the Aussies or Ukranians. Both of them were quite unlucky in many ways.

yes it was, have you seen how roberto carlos failed to mark him ? he left him all alone, he didn't move.

Yeah, looks like one part of the brazilian defence wanted to play offside and then all of a sudden 3 brazilians were faced with 5 french in front of Dida.

And i said "lucky", meaning it wasnt a goal that they deserve at that time.

yes i've seen it. but it was still a brilliant cross and finish.

France were the better team on Saturday anyway. Brazil didn't have it this year.
