I've got to side with Theresa here.
Although I know the context, those examples might seem to have a rather confrontational tone depending on the reader. |
come on now. quoting someone's football rants and using them to label that persons argument moot is a bit retarded. |

EDIT: pkc, this argument with you is pointless. You are a full supporter of what I am against.
Look at the way you present yourself on here.
\" you portugal\"
\"soccer hates me\"
\"your ideas better suited for 6 year olds\"
All of this is negative, and is exactly what I am trying to point out. |
hmmmm, were we having an argument??? that generally entails more than just one person spouting opinions and me shooting them down. you havent answered a single one of my questions.
as for my presentation on here- i love football (soccer). love it. the world cup is the biggest sporting event for me. im positive about football. i love watching it. i love respecting other people that watch it. and i love hating the teams that beat mine. now, if you think thats a negativity, perhaps i should follow all the teams so i can always be a winner, or better yet, not watch it at all so i wont get sad when my team gets knocked out?
yes, your ideas are better suited to 6 year olds coz they dont have the developed mind to understand what youre saying is largely ridiculous.
you should go live at a hippy commune. your ideas would be more popular there. thus far you have put forward some lovely ideas without any means of implementing any of them. its really easy to sit there and say 'lets just love and respect each other' without showing a single POSITIVE idea of how to implement this, especially in contexts where that is just an impossibility (ie between states at war).
so, instead of getting high and naming your children 'sunflower' or 'windchime', propose some realistic means by which to effect these wonderful changes you believe are so important to our planet.
ideas without action are pointless. or 'the philosophers have merely interpreted the world- the point is to change it' -karl marx. |

Holy crap you people are frusterating.
MY POINT:
TOO MUCH NEGATIVITY = UNHAPPY, BITCHY PEOPLE (much like many of you... and myself at the moment)
Perhaps a lot of you don't quite understand this since you are the ones being exposed to it so often that it has become common place for you.
Seriously, what is so hard to get?!
Can anyone honestly say that constant exposure to bad things is not going to change the general mood in people?
Yeesh. |
Your problem is that you see too many things as negative. If you werent so adamamant on ridding the world of the negative perhaps you would realize negative is as much as you make it to be negative. |

Not really. That's that's how he's presented himself to her. Although I admit I wouldn't do the same thing consciously (as I try to fight this sort of prejudice), I can't naively say that someone's avatar and signature have no affect over the judgment readers may have of him/her. |

Lol, are you expecting her to write a lil manifesto in the COR? Actions without ideas is pissing in the wind. At least she's thinking about changing the world, instead of trying to oppose anyone who might want to. |

Negative.
The context is where the sentences are compared to the information the reader has - in this case, these words are in a thread entitled "We need peace" and read by someone who (somewhat idealistically) supports such view.
|
The writer creates the context of his own words and opinion, by choosing the wording carefully to show his meaning. Interpretation of what words are said do not create the context of what was written or said. |

what, like lets love and respect everyone is some new brilliant synthesis? im not opposing someone that might want to change the world, i am merely challenging them to put a bit more thought into what theyre saying.
but, the ultimate test of these ideas will be in difficult contexts where 'love thy neighbour' just cannot apply. given that these situations are where those sentiments are needed most, thats what i would be focusing on. and to do that, you need a) a broad understanding of the grievances and b) some plan to address them.
and for anyone else here, i have nothing against portugal or the portugese (unless they play in the national football team ;)) |

Funny how a thread about peace totally turned ugly.
I suppose I should have expected that. |
