hmm... I guess I see what you mean. However, I can't agree with your affirmative that interpretation doesn't dictate the context: it's the readers interpretation of the context that becomes valid to the reader.
You can't take the words of the writer objectively because you're not the writer, and you will never be able to interpretate the same way.
If you think I got something wrong, though, do correct me :) |
Well, I am just saying, that words describe and create a context for the writer. Meaning only the writer and his words can create the context, not how they are interpreted by the reader. A reader can only interpret them as he wishes to, right or wrong, its up to the reader to realize the context of the original piece of information, and gather what is meant by it to understand it correctly. |

Imagine if, a crime happened, no one reported it, and the police arrested the criminals without major repercussion. Wouldn't it be a lot more effective than telling everyone that a crime's happened and the city is less secure now?
|
The example was probably poorly worded, but that's kind of what I meant. The factory facade is like a billboard advertising the breakdown of law and order (symbolized by the broken window). Much as a news broadcast can be. |

Im just saying that the way I say things means the same as I say it when I'm in conflict with myself because of the fact I said it in the context that "peace" is something that means something inevitably comes when the understanding of what I am saying reaches everyone who is reading. What I do with my actions is my buisiness as no one understands the real me anyways, and therefore my point will never be understood by a person with a different perception; hense neglecting the real meaning to what I ve been trying to say even though what Ive said has nothing to do with the subject matter!
Do you get my pointless peoples!

I see dead people. ...And I have to bury them, or put them out with the trash.
| quote: | | If I wrote, all black people are filthy ******s. Then I am being offensive, the word ****** isnt offensive, its the way its used by certain groups of people that creates an offensive tone...which is the context. |
Im an expert because Im black and grew up with a white family in Afganistan.
| quote: | | Life is conflict. Without conflict, there is no life. This is not something you have merely to accept or deny, depending on your "perspective", because your personal opinion is really of little consequence to the natural order of things. |
I know this because I have been in a conflict and held the lifeless body of loved one in my arms after a mortar shell has turned my house to rubble.
| quote: | | i think we've grown numb to these things those of use who choose to use our brains realize its BS and don't buy into it. I just watch TV for South Park & King of the Hill. |
I chose to ignore American propaganda because I just bought a first class plane ticket to Isreal to view the war first hand myself. I will then buy a house there and hope that the property value does not go down. |

Here's an excellent video originally posted by ogvh5150 in this thread: http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...&pagenumber=155
about the news media. I won't spoil it for you so you're just going to have to watch and see. It talks in depth about how corporations, government, and watchdog groups influence media.

A little off topic I know, but it could help shed some light on why the media is tainted here in the U.S. |

I hope this statement doesn't make me sound arrogant but studying words is something I do in a daily basis, and I do believe they're far more powerful than most of us can realise.
|
Unfortunately you're right, and people take words further than what they really mean. Words are only words, they are tools for communication and are nothing without what context we put them in. |

I disagree.
As much as I hate to say it, I think that we will eventually wipe out the majority of our population, and the remainder will instill the importance of peace which will follow through to a much more intelligent and advanced generation of people. |
So, the ones with the best weapons have the best chance of survival. Yai for Darwin's theory! Oh, and to think that survivors wouldn't eventually turn on each other is dumb. Humans are the only animals that are born with a genetic predisposition for gratuitous violence and murder. The very nature of human DNA cannot be changed, sorry. IF it's not going to be religous confrontation, it will be a social one. If not social, it will be racial. If not racial, it will be because of your clothes.
Humans WILL ALWAYS KILL OTHER HUMANS TO ESTABLISH THEIR DOMINANCE on each other, take posessions, do something they want to do, or for the of it.
Did you ever watch children play? What happens when you see bunch of kids play and someone takes toy away. It usually ends in fight or tears. I've yet to see a kid surrender his/her possesion without some sort of protest. It's our nature, don't you get it?
Sorry to burst your cute little pink bubble. welcome to the real world where it sucks no matter what. get your head out of the sand and either accept it, change it, leave it alone, ignore it, or check out.
later. |

damn... beat me to it - I was thinking the same thing. I was also asking myself a question:
when can we have world peace?
When can we hug trees without being put to shame?
When can we just get a bong?
When can we grow hemp/mj/etc unhindered by the evil governments?
When can we all go to eating grass, veggies, and tofu burgers?
I need my answers now!!!
p.s. All we are saying is give pipe a chance |

then your dick size will make you a subject of envy or ridicule (and subsequent death) but the good news is that it will only last one generation.... Unless ass ing will result in population continuance. And that's highly unprobable. The only (dubious) life form to come out of the ass is Cyrus King... and even his designation as a "life form" is up for debate.

I am sorry, I don't get the point.
My point was that:
negativity = angry, bitchy people
positivity = happier, pleasant people
I make sure to practice being positive and pleasant as much as I can. I think that translates often onto TA even.
P.S. I am a recycling fanatic :D |
If you're using tv/press/media as a means of gaining happiness or letting it bring you need to revise your life support strategies.
and btw
Damn you Theresa!!!! lol because of your f#cking thread I missed my train this morning :haha: ... and ended up being almost two hours late!!! lol
So anyhow all this got me thinking. Because you intend on becoming a teacher my question to you is: what will you do when a kid asks you about something he saw on the news?? Sure it's far fetched but you never know.
Btw your thread title is very misleading.
Ignoring world events does not consitute world peace in any way but only peace of mind and if that is your goal to remain safely inside your bubble I am not sure how me or anyone can possibly commend such behavior.
Ignoring your surroundings, the global picture is as bad as crossing off all of humanities past mistakes as irrelevant to today which effectively opens the door to letting the exact same things happen again.
Fight against global amnesia and sedation of the mind or else you are just another sheep in the populace! |
