I had a guy call me in Algonquin Park about a month ago. It kinda reminds me of your phone call:

"Okay, well we do not have dogsledding in the middle of the summer here. If you want to see polar bears, go to Nunavut, and if you want to see penguins, go to Antarctica."
- So there's no chance of seeing them in Algonquin Park?
"No. Could you hold please?" (I then transferred the guy to someone at work that I don't like)
OMG and another time, there was this guy sitting on the side of the road next to a sign that said "Moose Crossing"
I was in a vehicle with a warden, and we stopped to see if he was hurt or something. He just smiled and said "No, I'm fine thanks. I am just waiting for the moose to cross!"

first off, Americans are NOT stupid. We just really do not give 2 s about the world. If something is important to us, we will find out about it. otherwise its nothing to us. thats how we are and will probably always be. so when u get questions about canada, its b/c we dont know about canada. we aren't taught very much about canada and there isnt anything on TV about canada either. its like canada is basically like Greneda or like Trinidad to us. we dont have much interest. we do tend to come up here for vacation or whatever b/c its cheaper here and yes i admit u have a better variety of women.
So when u get questions that seem retarded to u, try to UNDERSTAND(<- i know its a tough concept for some of u) its b/c we really dont know about this place and we dont care to know anything unless its useful to us.
Disclaimer: Mind u every place has their elite class of arrogant or even ignorant bunch, but u cant generalize and think ur any better |

this is what my brother who lives in the States tells me all the time. There's no reason why your average American needs to know anything about Canada (or any other country for that matter) unless it had something to do with them directly. It's funny because conversely you can probably find a lot of Canadians who know more about the US than about Canada itself. It's all a matter of relevance really. People here might think Americans are stupid for these general reasons, but in reality, most Americans could care less about what Canadians think about them.
Tho, i don't believe the thread title was meant to generalize all Americans, rather than to poke fun at the stereotype, I mean c'mon Jay Leno doesn't help the situation either.
