| Tiesto was good when I heard him at Circus...he stayed away from his commercial stuff...I'd have to say it was borderline tech-trance tech-house. If your basing your judgement of Tiesto on his CDs and commercial stuff your in for a surprise if he spins that way at Resolution. Anyways New Years has always been friends > music, wherever the majority of my friends end up, that's where I'll be. |

no i know what u mean, he can still throw a good party, but honestly, he's over the hill and his productions latley are ing ass
But ur right, wherever the fun is, although im telling you Victor Calderone is gonna steal the show and if Franco Fabi is good as last yr were in for a treat! |

| quote: | | I'm not going to Resolution. Not only because I hate Tiesto or trance in general (trance got me into edm like countless others but I grew out of it) but because I'm not going to give 100$ to a party in Montreal that had all this money to book amazing talent, and they opted to book mainstream because of the guaranteed profits they will make. I'm willing to bet that if they booked a techno DJ, an internationally succesful house DJ (not someone we can see every one or two months in an after) etc. instead of "cash-guarantee" Tiesto/Second Sun, and Victor Calderone they wouldnt lose any business and the profits would still be there...after all, its a RAVE in Montreal with 5000+ people and at the core its about friends having fun like malik and jen said.. |
No. Tiesto is a cash cow. No house DJ will pull more than Tiesto. Never. This is THE man who first sold out stadium shows!
| quote: | | If you truly love Armin that's fine...although it shouldn't be for his showmanship but for the music he spins, which means you truly love trance and that is completely fine, it's your taste but don't say if you truly love music you will be dancing to Traffic coz that statement is sooooooo wrong dude. I don't like trance (especially not Tiesto's trance...Van Doorn is one of the very few now who's still making trance a respectable genre) and that's my taste. |
I didn't say I loved Armin just for his showmanship. I think Armin is an all around great DJ. You won't see emo tech James Holden selling tickets as well as Armin will... it's fact.
Yes, I do enjoy trance. Why is dancing to Traffic "soooooo" wrong? I was on the dancefloor with Jenn, Epicurus and a whole bunch of other TA's last NYE when Oakie whored it. What's so wrong about dancing to a catchy beat? Are children in Africa raped when someone plays traffic at a party? :P
| quote: | | We don't bash any event he's playing at, we bash the fact that he's the headliner for Montreal's New Years Eve Rave. Im still confused about what you're saying here: you know that Tiesto is spinning crap from 2003 onwards and yet you still can't wait to dance to his at this party? That can only mean one thing: it isn't about the music for you, it's about the party and that's fine again (although warped in my opinion) This forum is about music-lovers first and foremost, not people who want to be with friends at a good party so if we bash we bash with reason and according to our personal tastes and opinions. Music discussion no? |
At the end of the night... it's ALL ABOUT THE MUSIC!
BUT... there are other factors to put into consideration, the sound, the people, the lights, the VIBE! All these factors decide whether or not the night was good or just "alright" with, of course, music reigning all.
*breathe in*
I know this is a forum for MUSIC DISCUSSION... but if you want to go on that angle, isn't this place called www.TRANCEaddict.com. ;)
Tiesto isn't *THAT* bad. I'll tell you one thing, I'd rather dance to Tiesto at New Years than James Holden or Nathan Fake. No disrespect, but in my opinion Tiesto brings a better party than Holden.
I'm not saying Tiesto is the best DJ, I'm just not bitching about him playing. Let's be happy for what we have. Imagine what Calgary gets for New Years... :/ :nervous: :nervous: :nervous: |

Hehe, well in the whole world there aren't many people who listen to electronic dance music so "the majority" doesn't count :p
For the record, I was never into that PLUR thing coz most people who are take it too far :p

Tiesto is a guarantee. Don't tell me they wouldn't sell out if they promoted it right and brought different, musically better, DJs..it's a rave sponsored by BalenBlanc for godsakes...
Now Marcus, hehe, you know this site was made ages ago and as everyone knows it all starts with trance so of course its tranceaddict.com .. the Montreal section has not been dominated by trance for a long time (maybe never?) ;)
Yeah I thank God Holden won't sell more tickets than Armin..he's not a whore :P and he sticks to his sound and music (which only a handful appreciate)...now out of the 2 who is more respected and who will go down in edm history books as a pioneer, groundbreaker, edm changer? I'll give you a hint...not Armin;)
It's not about how much you make or how much you can help the venue/organizers make man.
The Traffic statement was wrong because you said 'If you like this music you will dance to Traffic'...i dont like trance and especially trance that refuses to die :p
Hypothetically speaking, if all of my best friends from around the world and every single member from this board was dancing to Tiesto no lights or lasers or vibe would make me forget that I don't like this genre of edm man come on! And as you said, music reigns above all ultimately, its the all-powerful all-dominating factor of these parties...if you dont like the music you wont like the party...
Look at this way: a laser show with 5000 people and all your best friends dancing to Dixie Chicks. You gonna love it coz of the vibe :p?
Dont compare Holden or Fake to Tiesto. Please. Holden is at home in an afterhour-garage type joint with 200 people that completely understand his sound, he's not big room. Tiesto has his own shoes now.
We live in Montreal not Calgary.
Let's stop hehehe,Marcus you know I think you're a cool dude but this debate won't lead us anywhere because | quote: | | We're just looking at the same thing from different angles bra that's all, that's fine. |
