That may be true if you're in an area where DJs frequent/has a large EDM fan base. I live in one, so I'm closer to what you described, but in many areas of America, what you described isn't what happens.

Personally, I like the smaller clubs. In the past week, I've seen both Adam Beyer and Magda on separate weeknights in a club that held under 300 people and I'm seeing Trentemoller in a different one tonight that holds 350, I think. The vibe is always better than at big clubs on weekends, because as you said, the masses stay away if it's not a top 10 DJ or some trendy club.

possibly between the ages of 14-18...?

Ableton's the direction djing is going in and saying otherwise is, in my opinion, simply kidding yourself. I also think Ableton gets a lot of flak on these forums for not a lot of reason. The beauty program is that it allows you to mix songs on the fly, so when I saw PvD in chicago he was literally creating mixes of songs that no one would possibly ever here again because he was mixing them for that show, on that night. It's fine to argue that the program detracts from the true art of djing but to suggest that it does the work for a dj who knows how to properly use the program is simply uneducated. I personally prefer a dj that spins vinyl but I don't hate on ones that don't. Just my .02

As for the djmag poll, I'm not gonna lose sleep over it. Last time I checked, dj dan was opening for bad boy bill at crobar.

Bring back vinyl

DJs who spin anything but vinyl are wank

Nothing beats the sound of a vinyl cracklin and the hiss during breaks.

If Armin keeps on giving out sets then I don't think he will ever be NR.1.
I think that Tiesto's fall from Nr. 1 is just that he does crappy sets these days. After reading many post on several forums, I don't think that I'm the only one with this opinion.
To be honest then Ron Van Den Beukens set @ Goliath 06 ate all of Armins sets from 2004-2006 straight up. And Ron has been a dj for like 2years.
Even 4 Strings does much bether live than Ferry, Tiesto and Armin.
Not to mention Rank 1, George Acosta and even DJ Sammy.
If somebodys mentions that Armin is a god on ASOT... Then you prbl. should start using ABLETON more often, if you can't then you are dumber than a 5year old boy.

When we are talking about DJ Sammy, no doubt that his commercial records had to do with the polls but...
He doesen't do big PR campains, he had just a few hits comparade to many others and...
HE PLAYS TECH-TRANCE...
I think that 80% of them that have been to his gigs will vote for him, because he is a damn good one.
No doubt that his 2 Goliath gigs also have had a lot saying in this mather, but I hear often that Sammy's livesets are "damn good" from German clubbers.

Agreed. There is no difference between a DJ that plays a continuous audio file and a DJ who plays a CD while pretending to DJ live. It's a big con either way.

I also agree that it's a shame that a medium like Ableton comes into question because some lazy DJs use it to fake live sets.

Unfortunately not everyone can tell the difference.

It seems we agree then :) For those who cant tell the difference, they probably dont know enough for it to matter anyway.

proof that the voting system has been manipulated, bought and/or cheated and is thus irrelevant. there is absolutely no possible way this standing is legitimate.

it's a travesty ARMIN is not #1. PVD looks and sounds like a granpa, he should retire. The way I feel like is if you don't play trance, you can't be a good dj. I don't know why they stick with these commercial pop and progressive people who haven't produced anything to like in ages

hahaha

how do you know that wasn't a prerecorded set? at least with cds you know whether or not someone is playing a prerecorded mix because you can see them switching out cds...

After seeing armin live for six hours at the Tobacco wearhouse, playing probably the best set ive ever heard in my life....downloaded live set, cd sets, live sets...and on cdj's...I know he has a chance to be number one. No doubt in my mind.
