Check the press conference on CNN's Pipeline I linked to a few posts back. It's going on right now and the media is doing an absolute load of assuming. |
Yeah, I'm not even considering turning on the news  |

didn't the rate for violence skyrocket in Australia after the gun ban?
I don't remember if it was incidents involving guns, or just criminal behavior in general, but i remember that the gun ban definitely had an inverse effect of its intent. |

I have a hard time imagining a world where you have to be afraid of guns. To go to campus and to be afraid that some lunatic goes postal just doesn't exist in my world. I consider myself very lucky of this. We just don't have the same gun problem as in the US. I remember that Moore made me think why America had this gun problem when Canada didn't have it, even with basically the same gun laws. It must be something in the American society, maybe a worked up fear (by the media?) of your fellow citizen that you need a gun to defend yourself.
RIP to all people who died needlessly this day. |

I find it very very very hard to blame, video games, 'easy access' to guns, being american, violent movies, decline of religion, abortion, fast food, and whatever else you can think of for causing these type of things. if in fact it does play a role in school shootings we would be seeing a hell of a lot more stories like this. there are millions of people that are american who play video games, watch every violent movie, have 'easy access' to guns, dont go to church and all that other jazz.
what we are looking at are weak correlations of behavior. but like arbiter said, its the perfect time to jump in with your agenda, whatever that maybe. |
+1, I love you. |

I don't blame these laws for what occurs, I simply think more gun control would genuinely be in our best interest. |
it all depends on where you want to concentrate I guess. Seems like your method might be effective if implemented properly (meaning nothing like how we regulate alcohol consumption, gambling consumption, and drug consumption).
I can't help but argue for the other end of the problem, with the individual and education. Its pretty messed up that someone thinks the best path to solving a problem is shooting a school up, doesn't matter how available guns are or what kinds of video games they play, its that their problem solving skills that are the problem.
so pay teachers more!!! give more scholarships for teachers that want to get a solid teaching education so they know how to deal with problem kids.
bah. im going off into uncharted territory :) |

| To the guns argument: it doesn't really matter. You ban guns, and next thing you know people are making fertilizer bombs to destroy their coworkers with. |

I don't think it's that out there ;)
I agree wholeheartedly with everything you've posted, I just don't think it would hurt to make weapons less freely available as well. |

| You think school shootings inspire more school shootings? Like a vicious circle. Like it has sort of become the "norm" when a disturbed individual crosses the line. |

| And for the record, I'm not advocating "banning guns," just making them more difficult to obtain. |
