Civilisation is a common understanding and common sense among citizen. Laws, responsibilities and the different varieties of freedom are accepted in general. Law and order are enforced by selected people (police etc.) You do not need to have weapons except if you consider them as a "symbol of freedom & independence" (I can't imagine anything else as a European by looking across the Atlantic). Okay, I think that is part of the US-american identity, so it is probably not possible to disallow weapons for everyone. But what about some psychological tests before someone is allowed to own weapons? Age restrictions? That could help to avoid shootings like the VA Tech one... |
