American children are more at risk from firearms than the children of any other industrialized nation. In one year, firearms killed no children in Japan, 19 in Great Britain, 57 in Germany, 109 in France, 153 in Canada, and 5,285 in the United States. (Centers for Disease Control)

quote:
In a single year, 3,012 children and teens were killed by gunfire in the United States, according to the latest national data released in 2002. That is one child every three hours; eight children every day; and more than 50 children every week. And every year, at least 4 to 5 times as many kids and teens suffer from non-fatal firearm injuries. (Children's Defense Fund and National Center for Health Statistics)

quote:
Between 1994 and 1999, there were 220 school associated violent events resulting in 253 deaths - - 74.5% of these involved firearms. Handguns caused almost 60% of these deaths. (Journal of American Medical Association, December 2001)

quote:
Between 1979 and 2001, gunfire killed 90,000 children and teens in America. (Children's Defense Fund and National Center for Health Statistics)

quote:
American kids are 16 times more likely to be murdered with a gun, 11 times more likely to commit suicide with a gun, and nine times more likely to die from a firearm accident than children in 25 other industrialized countries combined. (Centers for Disease Control)

quote:
According to a report by the Joshephson Institute of Ethics (2000 Report Card: Report #1), 60% of high school and 31% of middle school boys said they could get a gun if they wanted to (April, 2001)

but guns dont kill people  thats why all modern militaries use swords, theyre just as efficient as firearms.

its almost like you are ok with what marc said. even if was just a joke what if someone you knew was killed there, it wouldnt be just a joke anymore.:(

I accept that in this world we live in, people can be ignorant. I don't look down or look up to these people. I just acknowledge their presence and move on with life. Sometimes you just need to filter out those that are negative and just smile. Obviously the shooter didn't. <3 hadi

Thanks for the concern guys. I wasn't able to read this whole thread because it's pretty long but I did see my name thrown around a little bit there at the front...

I'm ok but it's been really tough. Yesterday when the news was breaking all day it just shock and awe and I was just numb hearing and watching the news roll in.

but today... today was brutal. it's having that despair sink in all day just culminating in a wave of grief, especially when I was watching the convocation ceremony. It's just overwhelming. Luckily I only know a couple people still down at Tech and they are all ok. One of my friends was actually in Holden which is the hall next to Norris and he said he heard the gunshots and he saw police officers run by the window with shotguns. A girl I went to high school with, her sister got shot. She didn't die, but it still hits home the fact that EVERYONE around this area knows someone who knows someone at Tech. And it's that much more horrendous for this tragedy. I just can't fathom the motivation that drove this person to such an extreme end.

Virginia Tech is still my community. You know. As an alumni, I'm still family and i'm really broken over this. It's hard to describe a loyalty or kinship that you have with your university until a tragic event like this pulls everyone together, but it makes you all that stronger for having that tie that binds you together.

:(

It's hard coping with something so devasting.Words really can't desribe how awful I feel. People have been calling and texting and emailing me all day. I called and texted FlavDave to see how he was doing and I've been trying to call everyone else I know as well.

Again, thanks for the concerns. I'm pretty broken right now so I'm going to go sleep.

Virginia Tech for life.

I'm sure movie producers will make a movie about this, starring Chow Yun Fat as the shooter. You all know it's true too. They'll remind the world of this unfortunate event taking advantage of our emotions and making money as a result.

Gas guzzling, worshopping the stupid people like Anna Nichol Smith & Paris Hilton, selling guns to the public, school shootings, holliwood money hungry executives making money from other peoples tragedies, mass consumers, all things make america america! Things won't change. Dont be surprised when 40 people get killed during the next school shooting in a years time. What will america do about? Nothing, there are too many rednecks in positions of authority. Here's an american redneck talking about guns right now:

quote:
Even though people are killed by guns, I do not think gun regulation will stop the murders.

yeeehaaa I gots meself a murder!!! pew pew pew!!

quote:
It is hard to believe, but more than ten thousand Americans are killed by firearms every year.

yeeeehaaa killing spreee. 10,000 of those yanks in me scopes!!

quote:
only a few Japanese are killed by firearms each year.

Yeeehhaaa stupid japs dont got the balls to carry a piece. I put a cap in yo arse dog!! 3 : 10,000 we win in kills to death ration yo pew pew pew!!! If you aint scared to walk the streets at night, then you aint truely lived yet! Kurt Cobain shot his brains out yo, that's hard core reverse Bruce Waynes stylez yo. What jap singer can boast that on their resume??

quote:
Typical of "acquaintance homicides" in general are: drug dealers killed by competitors or customers; gang members killed by members of the same or rival gangs; and women killed by brutal, predatory men.

shutup biatch I put a cap in yo arse!

quote:
In sum, it cannot be true that possession of firearms causes ordinary people to murder -- for murderers are virtually never ordinary, but rather are extreme aberrants with life histories of crime, psychopathology and/or substance abuse.

That's it dog, substance abuse yo, now lets go shot some kids in a school!! yeeehaaa pew pew pew!!

He hasn't. I called him out on that before, he's just guessing. See in his world the news is whatever makes him sound intelligent and people laugh at his jokes.

all guns should be outlawed... they have been in the UK and it's only led to good things for them... guns are pointless & only cause damage...
